Sleep trainers - Andrea Grace et al

The time has come to get some outside help for DD's continual night wakings. She's 10 mo

I have seen the following people recommended and wondered if anyone has any recent experiences, good or otherwise?

Andrea Grace
Sarah Barnes - Gentle Sleep Solutions
Alison Scott-Wright - Sensational Baby Sleep Plan
Millpond Clinic

I don't want to go down the CC route - I'd rather stay with DD and be able to comfort
her - my understanding is that none of the above practice CC, is that right?

Many thanks in advance for comments/recommendations.

Not got any experience of sleep trainers sorry *lucid". We went to the sleep clinic run by the HVs which was useful and used the No Cry Sleep Solution.

Know that ASW really divides opinion on MN. Before you spend any money I'd have a read of this.

What do you do when she wakes? Where does she sleep?

lucidlady · 17/08/2012 19:45

Sorry for late reply JJJ. Had a couple of awful nights.

It depends when she wakes really. She starts the night off in her own cot and then 9 times out of 10 ends up in our bed. This usually happens around 2am and means I don't sleep for the rest of the night.

Thanks for the link. I have no intention of going down the CC route. Have decided to go with Andrea Grace and will be seeing her next week. Fingers crossed this works - I am so bloody tired...

Hope you get some good results with Andrea, let us know how you get on.

I've just read ASW book and was absolutely appalled and shocked by her methods. Putting baby in own room and on their tummies to sleep and then watering down their formula feeds in order to get them go through the night, mixed in with some controlled crying, seems to be her method !!!!! How someone can be allowed to publish a book that advocates methods which are against government advise and guidelines just seems wrong to me.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/08/2012 12:05

Agree with you helen.

lucidlady · 18/08/2012 20:24

Yes I read that too, and then a friend of a friend said she charges £1,000 per day! Can't believe she makes so much money out of her awful methods. Granted it works for some but it's not a road I want to go down. Will update once we've met Andrea.

Shush pat? I think that was Tracy Hogg's book The Baby Whisperer.

Marc Weissbluth's Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child was a great book, if a little thick. I found that very helpful but I didn't do any CC myself with DD, pick up put down or shush pat was enough.

I used Andrea Grace when dd2 was still waking up to 4 times per night at 18 mths.
Beat money I've ever spent! She was do understanding, kind & patient and genuinely interested
I hope this helps. Good luck. Sleep deprivation is absolutely a form a torture.
Word of warning-it takes a while for you to feel better for having a proper night's sleep...
Good luck

Whoops! I replied too quickly on this thread and things have moved on a lot.
