Helping newborn sleep in her own crib

We are co-sleeping at the moment as she is very unsettled in her crib. I get why, the fourth trimester, she is new etc wants to be close. She is held most of day or in sling.

I don't mind co-sleeping, but worry as it as safe because I am ff and I am on medication (lithium) I just don't feel I am as aware of her, and which worries me. I And my neck hurts from sleeping on one side!

Have tried swaddling, but she cries. Ds loved swaddling, but she seems to hate it. Have tried putting my t-shirt in there for her to lie on.

Any other suggestions?

My 6 wk old has only just started to spend the first part of his night in the cot- he seems to be getting more used to it. However, it is a co-sleeper cot so we are right next to each other. I have also propped his mattress underneath with a pillow- he seems to prefer sleeping slightly propped.

The other tip I have heard but not used is to warm the cot before you put baby down in it- with a hot water bottle or heat pack so it's not such a shock when your baby is put on the sheet.

But yes, ultimately, I think newborns just need that closeness, it seems to be like a survival instinct they have, and I have just been going with it really, in order to get some sleep Smile

Hi
We put our lo in her cot at the weekend. The first time I let her fall asleep and then transferred her to the cot which I'd warmed up with a hot water bottle first. I also put rolled up blankets either side if her (not face height) do she felt a bit more snuggled.

During the day I have been letting her lay on there whilst I do things in the room and chat to hey so she feels a bit more used to it.

Good luck

We bought a bednest. The best thing ever. I could cuddle dd and she slept really well in it. Much better than DS in his swinging crib. In fact we liked it so much we bought a brio co-sleeper cot. Although she sleeps in her own room now its nice as the side goes up.

She is much better at settling than DS ever was.

Used the trick of having something smelling of me and that helped too.

Also I let DD sleep on her front (totally against SIDS guidelines). She still sleeps o her front. She could roll onto her side when she was tiny too.

I have thought about a bed nest. But she likes to be touching me, so so not sure if it would work.

She will definitely be a stomach sleeper like her brother as she loves sleeping like that on us. Unfortunately I would never sleep with worry if I did that.

I realise I can just go with it, but I am on medication that may make it more dangerous for us to co-sleep.

Sorry I thought you meant a snuggle nest. Can't really afford a bed nest.

We had a cot where one side could be removed so we had it pushed right up against our bed. DS was in his own cot, but easily accessible for cuddles, feeds, comfort etc.

I am going to see if we can move bedroom around a bit to fit cot in, with side down. At moment it would block door, but might be able to make it work.

Moses basket (smaller) on floor so that you can reach out to her easily in night?
