6 month old waking at different times each morning

I'm aware that my problem may seem insignificant compared to some others but I am really looking for some advice for my 6 month old DS. He goes to bed usually between 7-7.30pm. Some nights he is unsettled till around 10pm and I give him an extra feed, others he doesn't wake at all.

The problem I am having is that he will either wake at 6am, when I will get up with him for the day or somewhere between 4.45am and 6am, which I treat as a night wakening. I used to be able to feed him and he would go back to sleep, but when I feed him now he doesn't fall back asleep. We put him back into his cot and he sometimes falls asleep (can take up to an hour) or other times I pick him up and feed him again, and he usually goes back to sleep. He then wakes somewhere between 7-8am.

The problem is that he is up for the day anywhere between 6-8am, and his routine is really affected by the constant changing of waking up time! If he is up at 6am, his breakfast would usually be around 8ish, but when he wakes up later I struggle to fit all his meals (he is on 3 meals a day) and milk feeds, as well as naps.

I wonder whether I should wake him up by a certain time, but truth be told, if I am up at 5am with him for an hour, I usually enjoy the sleep after too. I know that sounds a wee bit selfish!

Any advice?

At 6mo I remember it seeming a constant stream of solids/milk/ naps and often it was difficult to fit everything into a day. I think that at this age, missing a meal isn't too much of a problem, and in another month or two he'll nap less and better at eating, both of which will help :)

DD is 14mo now and still has days where she wakes up early or late, but we can now flex the routine a lot as there's much more free time to fit everything into.
