17 month old having problems going to sleep at bedtime

Since about a year my dd has been a brilliant sleeper, but for the past 2 weeks it has been taking anything from 45 mins to 1.5 hours for her to settle at bedtime, she used to drop off straight away! Her routine hasnt changed and her lunchtime nap is fine- usually has between 1.5- 2hrs. Is this a sign she needs to go to bed later (she goes to bed at 7pm)?

Thanks

At 18 months my ds suddenly went through a separation anxiety at bedtime which I believe is very common. It was taking ages to get him to settle. He had previously been excellent at settling. But we found if we stayed withhim he went to sleep. Could it be this do you think? Not sure if it's a good idea to start staying with her like we did though. Now nearly 3 and we still have to lie with him at bedtime.

Yes it could be that, although she doesn't always seem unhappy- she seems to alternate between crying & then playing. I wish I had the patience to lie with her until she sleeps!

My ds would one day be happy to be left and go to sleep himself then suddenly one day he would scream and scream as soon as we left the room. But if we lay with him he'd lie down and go to sleep quite quickly. So doesn't really sound that similar to your scenario
Think I would be tempted tomove bedtime a bit later to see if that helps.

Thanks mumtocuddle. I'm going to try moving it back by half an hour. In a selfish way I want to keep bedtime at 7pm- I'm ready for a rest by then!

Good luck! It's all a guessing game and about trying new things constantly to see what works!

Omg it's identical for us Sad
It's been 2 weeks and I'm on my knees
Last night took till 1030 and then only settled by getting in spare bed With him then moving him once sound asleep
Watching with interest

I'd cut the nap slightly and leave bedtime the same. Youre ultimately working to a time when the nap goes altogether so it's logical to start trimming 15/30 mins off the nap rather than moving bedtime later, IMO.
