The nap sat on the lap. How do I sneak out?

Hi :)
I have a gorgeous 3 month old who sleeps well at night, usually 10:30-8ish, with feed around 4 & 6, in a co sleep crib. Falls asleep on the boob then i put him in his crib and he stays asleep. Straight back down after night feed usually too.

BUT daytimes the only way i can get him to take decent length naps is on my lap/movng pram. If i stop the pram he wakes up with 10 mins. If i put him down, after waiting for him to look sound asleep, he wakes up after 10mins also.

He usually has about 45-60 mins at 11am, long nap up to 2 or 3 hrs at 1pm, 45-60 mins around 5:30. Falls asleep on boob or eats then has bit of a cry for a minute or two while i rock and shush. While i dont mind this as i prefer him to sleep than not, it would be handy if i could use the time to do housework etc.

Any tips?

Could you feed in bed, and slide him into the cot for the longest nap?
Or feed in a sling (apparently this is possible, tho I've never managed it), and then get on with some bits while he sleeps in the sling?

Ignore the housework. Enjoy the cuddles with your baby. Envy

Not v helpful sorry.

DD was like this, still is to a degree at nearly 7mo. But! its not as bad as that sounds Grin. Baby's naps change so frequently that what you need to do one week you don't need to do another.

What I did was to encourage the naps on her own in her cot, where she would sleep for 30mins exactly (you could set a clock by her). When she was 3mo, she might have two of these naps a day. Then I'd also let her have another one or two naps on me or in the pushchair. Yes, getting housework done would be great, but some fresh air or cuddles are nice too!

Then at about 5mo she moved to being happy with 2 30min catnaps and one hour long walk, so I would decide depending on our day when to have the longer nap.

We had a brief period a few weeks ago when 4 catnaps were enough, which was bliss as I had all that time to get some housework done. Sadly now she has dropped a nap so we are back to needing 2 hour long naps and 1 catnap...

The Baby Whisperer has some good advice on trying to encourage longer naps in babies. They didn't work for us in a cot, but I see now that her 'wake to sleep' idea is actually what happens while DD is napping on me.

However, as the wise words of MN say, this too will pass, and your DS will eventually learn to take longer naps. Until then, I would be encouraging as many naps a day as he can manage on his own, and then enjoy a nice snuggle for the rest of the naps.
