Has anyone seen a GP for sleep problems in a young child?

DS1 has never slept through. We've tried all the methods consistently at regular intervals and now he's 3.6yo and still wakes 4-8 times per night.

He's waking up the household, including his 4mo baby brother (who might otherwise sleep through) with wailing, shouting, getting up etc etc and we are all knackered and it can't go on. We need help.

But I don't know what a GP could actually do? Is there any point in taking him? If you've taken a DC in for sleep issues were they helpful or understanding?

I took dd when she was 3. The GP was lovely actually and listened to everything about her sleep. She referred her to the consultant for sleep apnoea. The follow up to that isn't great and we gave up but I think it is worth it.

Dd is 3 and a half now and sometimes sleeps, sometimes wakes lots but I cna't be bothered fighting the consultant any more.

Have you looked at his diet? I've mentioned it elsewhere for younger kids as it has a massive impact on my two.

Haven't been to GP about it but DD still wakes at least once a night. Some times rarely she sleeps all night. It is tiring though!!

Interesting about Sleep Apnoea, Indith. He is an occasional snorer like his blooming father

Iggly, I've only considered diet insofar as seeing whether a light evening meal or a heavy carby meal made any difference to his wacky sleep (neither did) what changes did you make?
