How can I get my baby to nap without the hairstyle on?

My baby girl who is 3 months old has never napped in the day without the hair dryer on!

She sleeps from 6.30pm until 6am every night which is lovely but she gets so grizzly by the end of the day if she hasn't had much of a nap. She'll happily have a cat nap on me for about 20 mins every now again but that's it. The only way I can get her to have a proper nap in her bed for an hour is to put the hair dryer on and leave it on! It can get the room rather warm sometimes so I ensure that she is in minimal clothing so she does not over heat.

When it comes to bed time she goes gown do easily (with no hair dryer) all I do is press Ewan her dream sheep which makes comforting noises and ages asleep! However Ewan the sheep doesn't seem to work for her at nap times.

Shall I just accept that this is how she is or should I try another tactic before I can no longer afford my electric bill?!

Yes it might be that she's just so worn out that she'll drift off quite easily.

I've just downloaded a white noise app so we'll give it a try tomorrow bless her heart.

It's funny isn't it how when we get older we'll do anything for a nap but as a baby we're not too keen!

flosie I've just bought Ewan! And 240x5! That's great. I'm in France and the peadiatrician is convinced that 120x5 is 'sufficient' for a 12 wk old baby, regardless of if they're still hungry, so I keep thinking I'm overfeeding her at 18x5. She's also on the high side of height and weight percentiles and they seem to like skinny babies here!

Aw yay! I hope you get on with it!

Every baby is so different hunger and weight wise. My baby was 8lb 7oz when born and now weighs 13lb 8oz!

I used a white noise app on the iPhone - for me a running shower but it did have a hairdryer noise on it.

Very shortly I'll be trying the app! I'll let you know how I got on!

The white noise app worked! Even I fell asleep by mistake and woke up to find I was late for her feed!

Now shes well rested and guzzling her favourite tipple (formula) !

Woo hoo!! Does her appetite vary or does she take the same every time? And do you have specific times for naps? Ours just seems random at the mo, with feeds every four hours ish, but not at the same times everyday as it depends when she wakes up.

Flosie1989 · 05/08/2012 12:16

Yes her appetite does vary. Sometimes she might just have 150ml and then her next feed she might take 240ml. I just make each feed up to 240ml to save going back and forth to the kettle for top ups! Even though I do waste a lot of formula by doing so!

We don't have set times for naps but I do try and follow this schedule - feed, play, nap, feed, play, nap etc. and I try and keep her up for an hour and a half or maybe 2 hours after her last sleep. So for example, she wakes at 6am then I try and get her down for a nap at about 7.30-8am for an hour then feed her again at 9am.

Her feeds are 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm (or just after) I did start by feeding her every four hours but it just wasn't enough for her. Every 3 hours she's much happier Smile

googietheegg I think I spoke to soon! DD woke last night for 2 hours. Just couldn't settle her! Really don't want to get back into night feeds after so long without them!

Can this happen? Can babies just start to get hungry in the night again?

Crikey flosie I bet you're exhausted. Good luck for tonight!
