Is there anyone out there that can say yes my baby sleeps in his moses during the day?

Please...

Any success stories?

DS (9wks) currently snoring his little head off in his mobywrap, but I'd love it if he'd actually sleep where he should be. Gah..

Is this a bf issue only I wonder...i.e do ff babies sleep the way naievly I thought he would. sorry if spelling mistakes, my head is backwards today :(

DS was breastfed and used to sleep in the pushchair or bouncy chair or lying on the sofa, (this isn't recommended because of sofa cushion gaps and chemicals in the fabric, though) we didn't have a moses basket.

TBH I'd be tempted to say he's sleeping exactly where he should be - close to you! Frustrating though I know it can be.

cherrypieplum · 03/08/2012 13:52

Yep. my baby girl has slept in hers from the get go. Although she does need cuddling to sleep mostly

Cheeser · 03/08/2012 13:52

my 12 week old will only nap in there if he first falls asleep on me and I smuggle him into his basket without making a sound. often that only lasts about 20 mins, until he stirs and realises he's not on my comfy boob and starts crying.

ShhhhhGoBackToSleep · 03/08/2012 13:53

My DC2 6 week old will occasionally sleep in her Moses basket if I prop it up a bit, but at the moment is happy snoring in the bouncy chair which I am bouncing with my foot while I mnet. She sleeps brilliantly in a sling but it does get wearing!

It doesn't really matter where they sleep when they are this little I think, just so long as they sleep!!!

SwivelHips · 03/08/2012 13:56

I'm demented. He goes in there (eventually) and sleeps from about 8 til 5am (with intermittent feeds of course) but after 5am he's like "no chance, I aint leaving you...." He won't sleep in his pram either (sigh). I've walked for bloody miles and he just lies there looking at me...

jaggythistle · 03/08/2012 13:56

yeah mine does sometimes. it's the pram carrycot bit so same kind of thing. he much prefers the wrap sling too though!

he's 15 weeks and currently asleep in his fisher price baby to toddler rocking chair instead. think he likes being upright a bit. poor wee guy just got ditched in the chair while i got his big brother down for a nap. he gets abandoned a lot more than DS1 did! Blush

he's ebf too as you mentioned it. :)

SwivelHips · 03/08/2012 14:03

when will it end???

OP posts:
SwivelHips · 03/08/2012 14:04

DS has swing and bouncy chair, both stimulate him rather than make him sleep. I'm really paranoid about over stimulation at the minute...driving dh nuts :(

jaggythistle · 03/08/2012 14:12

oh he doesn't fall asleep in anything other than the sling or pram yet (or while attached to me).

i have to sneak him in while he's asleep. he's recently discovered thumb sucking which was a big deal for DS1 and he was more settled after that.

BackforGood · 03/08/2012 14:19

Well, mine are teenagers now, but yes, they used to sleep in the Moses basket or carry cot in those first couple of months.

My DD was exactly the same. Until about 8 weeks when she decided she no longer liked the sling. I keep trying the moses basket occasionally (she's now 20 weeks), but she's not having any of it. Wakes up as soon as she's put down in it.

DD sleeps in a Sleepyhead instead. We found it a god-send; it's nice and cosy. It was the only place she would sleep other than on me.

SwivelHips · 03/08/2012 21:35

Oh Blimey I don't think I can justify another 90 quid to dh, ive spent a fortune on sleep aids, miracle blankets, Velcro swaddling suits etc you name it. Ds is nearly too long for his Moses basket and I have no idea what to do next.
The skeepyhead is it quite long? In bed on my phone so can't check properly...

I have been putting dd in the Moses basket since we came home from hospital. She sleeps really well in it because she has always been used to being put down whilst awake.
I think that's the key; get them used to going to sleep on their own early on. She is 6 weeks now and whilst she loves to fall asleep on my chest/sling I think she does prefer the basket where she is comfy and quiet.
She sleeps on her side tho propped up with a rolled up blanket. Will not entertain sleeping on her back. eBF too.
Could you try putting baby in the basket awake and doing either pick up put down or shush pat until she is happier?

PickledLily · 03/08/2012 22:10

"Oh Blimey I don't think I can justify another 90 quid" is exactly what I said to DH when he suggested it! It's the best 90 quid we've spent on baby stuff.

It fits snugly into our Bednest and DD is still in it (just) at 20 weeks - she's about 65cm long. But we are looking to move her out of it over the coming weeks as she is starting to roll and will soon be able to roll onto her tummy. They have a website with some info

PickledLily · 03/08/2012 22:13

Whoops, just realised you said you are on your phone! Here are the details:

DIMENSIONS

Total: 400 mm wide, 750 mm long

Bed area: 225 mm wide, 600 mm long

WEIGHT | 1.7 kg

lindsell · 03/08/2012 22:22

Ds2 (13wks) will occasionally sleep in his carry cot during the day but much prefers to sleep on me/in the sling. If he does sleep in the carry cot in the day it's not a deep sleep and he manages to wake himself up/get startled very easily. He sleeps well in it at night though (grateful for that Grin). He's ebf. Ds1 was exactly the same and also ebf. He also sleeps well in his car seat if we go out somewhere. I usually have him in the sling a lot during the day.

pickledlily that looks cosy but my ds2 would already be too big for it.

SwivelHips · 04/08/2012 03:46

Oh purple I am very jealous, I did try to put him down in Moses when drowsy 3 days last week, lots of tears inc mine so I gave up and we're back at square 1.
Dh sound asleep on me now, just waiting 20 mins for deep sleep, Blimey I never thought it would be like this.
I'll get him measured tomorrow, but he's a very long baby so I'm thinking non starter. I've ordered some other sleep positioner for his cot, not a chance he'll go into that though.
Dh also not keen on car seat either...gah

SwivelHips · 04/08/2012 03:51

Oh Blimey I meant ds not dh, dh is thankfully in bed and not asleep on me...(silly cow face)

My ds 6 weeks and ff) won't sleep in his through the day. He wakes up.

He sleeps in it at night though. We bought a travel system for him which included a pram and he only went out in it once. He screamed so much we had to carry him till he fell asleep. He doesnt really like lying flat though and sleeps on his side.

SwivelHips · 04/08/2012 09:48

I'm the same Amanda, forked out for this blinking travel system that is gathering dust in the hall.

Picked I've had a look and it says up to 8 months...does the end open to let their feet hang out or something? I've kind of built my own version of this already using towels Grin but we were beginning to think he was getting a bit squashed in there. Maybe this is the solution to moving him into his cot Hmm wonder if they do money back guarantee for when DS screams the place down in it

OP posts:
PickledLily · 04/08/2012 20:54

One end of the sleepyhead is 'open', but the ends can be buckled together to pull the sides together. DD has the ends open and her feet do dangle over the end now. It doesn't seem to bother her. I don't think it would last 8 months though. The link I sent says once they can roll onto their tummy (3-4months) that they should stop sleeping in it unsupervised.

Does DD have a really comfy mattress? I suspect that might help too - DD now sleeps best on our (new and very expensive) bed. Hmm

Amanda - same here. I've just spent the day pushing the travel system around whilst carrying DD. It did prove useful for carrying the shopping/waterproofs/other kids stuff, but that's about it!

swivelhips - I hope you find a (cheap!) solution that works for you. In the meantime, take heart in knowing that you are not alone!

toomuchpink · 04/08/2012 21:02

Swivelhips
Your experience sounds pretty normal to me. I only ever got mine to go down in the moses basket if they were already asleep during the early months.
The good news is, it doesn't last forever.
Around three months you might find you have more luck. Just keep trying to get the baby to take their first morning nap, say, in the basket. You will probably have to persevere for a bit, but it will happen eventually.
H

SwivelHips · 04/08/2012 21:24

Ok, tomorrow I'm going to give it a go, if I can get the first nap in the Moses a little confidence boost.
Pickled I bought a fairly decent mattress for his Moses basket, and a really good one for his cot bed. Even I hate his Moses so I might build him a nest on the cot bed and see how it goes.
He's eating his own body weight tonight, doubt he'll fit in the Moses if he continues. He's now been awake since 4 and very bloody cranky :(
