Jetlagged baby has forgotten how to sleep - exhausted!

I'm hoping for some advice, any tips or any help at all, I'm exhausted! My 7 month old used to sleep 8pm-6am plus daytime naps. We then went to the US to visit family (there is a 5-hour time difference) over two weeks, and everything has gone to pot. During our trip she never really got used to the new routine, and woke up every 1-2 hours in the night. We were so tired over the last few days of our trip that we had her sleeping with us in bed, and that helped a little.

We have now been back 5 days, and things are even worse. She will go to sleep at her usual time of 8pm, but wakes up less than an hour later, and every hour all night long until around 5am, when she goes into a deep sleep (I have been trying to wake her up at 7am to get her used to local time, although I'm very tired myself so have been slipping). Every time she wakes up it's a nightmare getting her back to sleep, she wakes up screaming and won't go back to sleep unless we rock her. Even then often wakes up when we are putting her back in her cot and cries. We tried a bit of controlled crying but she looked terrified so we couldn't go through with it. We don't want her to get used to sleeping in our bed, as she used to sleep really well in her own cot / room.

I'm not sure what to try next, I'm at the end of my tether, so tired! Any ideas / help would be much appreciated!

Hi
We took my DD to Canada for 3 weeks when she was 5 months old and there was also a 5 hour time difference. I do remember when we came back the only thing that worked was letting her sleep in our bed. We basically did that for quite a few nights until she seemed regulated and once she was, we moved her back to her cot without any major problems. I may have cuddled her to sleep the first few nights she was in her cot but she eventually went back to sleep okay.

You could try keeping her up for a bit longer too. I do remember also letting her sleep later the first few days, (which resulted in less daytime sleep initially), but gradually waking her up 15 min earlier at a time so it was a bit easier on her.

It's really hard - it took well over a week to get her adjusted both ends - good luck and hope this helps.
