dtds go to bed between 7pm-7.30pm and sleep through until one wakes around 5am/5.30am. They just wake chatting and seem happy enough so we don't go to them unless they cry (this morning dtd2 was crying from 5.15am so it was very early today). We usually try to hold out until 6am but in reality we are laying in bed resting but no way can we sleep once they're up.

dtd2 used to sleep until 7/7.30am but dtd1 seems to wake her more now, and it's usually dtd1 who wakes early and thinks it's playtime. By 8am they've had bottle and breakfast and are back in bed for a nap which can last from 45mins to 2 hours.

Basically, this is not going to work once dd1 starts school in Sept and dh and I are shattered. I'm grateful they sleep through most the night and go down without any problems but I have no idea how to get them to sleep longer at night.

In addition to the morning nap they also have a nap in the afternoon which varies in length depending on the morning nap, but in total they probably nap about 3 hours a day in total.

I have a book that we've dipped into, but it just says "your baby should sleep until about 7am by now" Errr okay, what if she doesn't?!
Any ideas?

Have you tried pushing back their bed time to see if they'll sleep longer in the morning?

You could try reducing their nap lengths but personally I was always loathe to do this as mine ended up being grumpy...

Would separate rooms be an optionif they arewaking each other?

FWIW my three year old rarely sleeps past six. Some are just early risers I think.

I'd probably start going to bed a bit earlier if I was you...

And that book you've got - load of crap Wink

To be honest I'd rather they both woke at the same time as then they nap at the same time. on the days dtd2 slept through dtd1s noise it's a pain for the rest of the day as they end up having lunch seperatly etc so I just end up doing everything twice.

I do keep trying to go to bed early but there's so much to do in the evenings and dh seems unable to do it - will try beating him with a stick tonight to see if that works and get him to bed at 9pm, and make it clear it's for sleep and nothing else! Grin

Step back from the cleaning and tidying! Sleep is more important. They're still really little and they're doing really well. DC3 had a night feed at 4am 'til 14 sodding months....

How old are they? I would say a cut back in daytime sleep is needed, certainly for the early riser. Just because they are twins doesn't mean they will have the same sleep needs.

The only thing that worked on DD's (first) sleep regression is pushing her morning nap later and later - she was usually ready for 1st nap at 7:45 - 8am, but gradually pushed it back to 9 and she would sleep later in the mornings.

However, we are back to 5:30 starts again so I am going to try pushing the nap back til 9:30/10 now and see if it works again.
