Tips for ditching the grobags?

DS is 18 mo, in cot. Have another baby due in Jan, DS will be just 2 then.
Really would like to have him into a proper bed by then. So, I was thinking the first step would be to get him used to sleeping with a duvet and not a grobag. Any tips for this transition? He just kicks and rolls around so much that he'll end up with no covers.

TIA

I found it easier to pop ds ( who was 2y4m when we moved him) cold turkey into bed with no gro bag. We put the duvet with the long side across and tucked in on both sides iykwim. We had no problems that way

Agree with knitting. We did the same with dd. It worked really well although she was a tad restless the first night.

Ok will try that then!

Yes, just go cold turkey. Both mine took to duvets with no bother. Good luck!

I've been thinking about the same thing. My DD is 2.5 and still in cot & grobag. Planning on moving her to a big bed and duvet this weekend. Glad it's worked ok for others. Fully expecting a couple of disrupted nights but feeling encouraged to see others have managed without any problems.

I popped DS1 in his new bed with his gro bag on.
He was fine and didn't attempt to get out! It just didn't cross his mind. Although it wouldn't have worked with DS2 as he had spent months playing on his brothers bed so knew he could climb out. With him we just went cold turkey.
We eventually just switched to a quilt with DS1.

What's wrong with grobag in a real bed? DD has been in grobags in our bed since 6mo. It won't stop them crawl out of bed and then crawl or toddle away! DD learned how to climb over us, and them slide of the bed, and toddle all in her grobag. It's funny, but it doesn't do her any harm.

I just thought it would make walking harder for him, that's why I thought he'd need to be out of it.

When we took the side off ds's cotbed (he was 3, but very short, so still couldn't climb out), we gave him a full size single duvet, and tucked 1/3 under the end of the mattress, so it couldn't fall off easily and there was plenty sticking out the sides to keep him covered up. He'd been in grobags until then.

Worked well once we made it clear that one ONLY gets out of bed to use the potty, and NEVER comes downstairs in the night...
