How can I best transition a 5m old baby from a swinging crib/hammock to a regular cot?

We moved dd2 to her own room but kept her in her swinging crib. It's a fabric one so sort of like a cross between a hammock and a swinging crib. After a week of her sleeping well, I moved her into the big cot. Her sleeping has gone downhill and she is unable to put herself back to sleep when she wakes up. I suspect the natural swing of the crib aided this previously.

Now I'm stuck. How do I get her to sleep in the big cot? With dd1 we used a moses basket so we were able to put the moses basket inside the cot for a few weeks and we had no problems. For dd2 we cannot do this PLUS the surface and feel of the big cot is so different to her crib.

Any ideas?

Does she nap in the cot during the day?

To get my DD used to the cot we got a mobile to hang over it and put her in for 10 mins at a time during the day, so she got used to the feel/smell etc..

You can roll up a towel and put it under the sheet to decrease the size of the cot if you think the amount of space is the problem (we did this for DD in her moses basket at the very beginning)

Unfortunately, there's probably not much you can do about the rocking motion she's got used to. Is she old enough for a sleep prop like a blankie? Or if you're not against using them a dummy can be useful at times like this?

Tried the dummy (dd1 took to one at 4/5 months and it was a good substitute comfort item when I felt she no longer needed night feeds) dd2 hasn't taken to a dummy. She's had a 'lovey' comforter to sleep with since day one. I don't think it would bother her if I threw it away for the notice she takes of it!

I'll try putting her in there with the mobile on for a fun 10 minutes with me by her side. I also like the rolled towel idea.
