Dealing with the 'standing in cot' stage

dd 9 months has finally figured how to stand in her cot. Usually for naps I just put her in with blanket and dummy. She tosses and turns for 10 mins then is usually asleep. But now this can't be done as she is up and standing before I've even left the room! When I go back in to lay her down, she laughs, obv thinking its all a game! She has always been very good at self settling so I really dont want to start havin to cuddles her etc till she drifts off. At night, she is usually very sleepy by time she has had her milk so I can just put her down she she is out within a few minutes. She is in grobag at night but I've just this minute put her in in for nap as she can't stand quite so easily in it yet!

I guess im just curious to know what others do at this stage for naps. I'm up 4 flights of stairs so bringing buggy up and down is a no no.

Thanks

Don't be so sure she won't learn to stand in her gro bag Grin DS2 mastered the art of running around in it very quickly and DD could get herself out of her cot despite having to wear these
Could you just sit by her cot and stroke her face or stroke her hand? That works for DS2.

She was standing up in grobag this morning! I knew it would only be a matter of time. Oh the fun!!

You could try just leaving her standing up and telling her it's time to sleep then closing the door and going away. She knows how to self settle and she's used to napping, so she may just lie down and get on with it when there isn't an audience any more. We did this with DS. We closed the door on a giggling standing baby and then within 10 minutes he'd be asleep without any distress.

I just leave my dd to do what she wants to do - there was a period of about 5 days when she couldn't work out how to get back to lying down from standing and would cry so we had to rescue her each time she got stuck but now she's fine with it at 10.5 months and just settles herself

Thanks ladies, think I'll just have to leave her. She can get back down from standing so I guess she will get tired of it and lay back down.

Standing up for a bit seems to be a part of my dd's night time ritual now. I have to make sure she is definately tired though otherwise she will stand and cry for ages.

As others said I did a mixture of going in and lying her down again (no speaking just quickly in and out so not a game). It was exasperating and sometimes had to give up on a nap, but she gradually worked out to lie down.

Now she plays around a bit if she isn't dog tired and then she lies herself down to sleep.

Let them get on with it I say!
