No more swaddle - help!!!

We've had to go cold turkey on the swaddle since 5-month old DS mastered the art of flipping over onto his stomach while swaddled last week.

At first it wasn't too bad, but for the last two days we've had no naps in his cot and only a few hours sleep in total at night. As soon as he seems calm and ready I put him down and he instantly turns into a thrashing monster. He is getting his first two teeth at the moment which isn't helping but I'm getting desperate.

Does anyone out there have any bright ideas on how to calm him down?

I love your name nogeen and I agree, it would be nice! South African? So am I Smile

It just takes time when the swaddle goes. I stopped using a swaddle on my son when he was 12 weeks, and he was very restless for a month or so.

Not S African Today - but living in the Netherlands ;-)

Thanks for the woombie recommendation Joyful. Could have done with one of those over the last few months, but now I'm a bit worried DS would still be able to flip over in it and then it's not so safe for him...

I had this problem at about 4 months. My ds had bad reflexes and we would wake frequently with jolts. I finally decided to train him to sleep on his stomach. I know you are nit really supposed to, but he had good head control and was just about rolling both ways. Tummy sleeping worked and I checked on him frequently. At the same time I did control crying with a strict routine for both naps and bedtimes. At 8 months he sleeps through and naps well with only a little cry or whine beforehand (most of the time).
