Or feed to sleep but wakes as soon as she is put down!

Finding this hard as I am getting back ache as wearing the sling a lot, also have other children to attend to.

The only time dd really gets unsettled is when tired, but just can't stay asleep put down, I think she would if she would take a dummy but won't unfortunately.

How old is baby?

threecurrantbuns · 08/07/2012 15:55

3months and my fourth, I'm aware she is still young, but I actually can't continue to have her in the sling so often.

My five month old DD has all her naps in a sling but hoping to get her in cot soon. Thing is with two older kids it is the easiest solution as I can go on school runs etc without waking her as she just snoozes wherever I am.

Does kill my back though but now she is bigger I use a more supportive sling (a patapum) and that makes it easier.

Sorry not to actually offer any help, only sympathy! :)

LittleWaveyLines · 08/07/2012 19:47

OK, I can't help with putting the baby down, as my DD would always cry when she was put down until oh, about 10 months and she started walking, and still doesn't want to be put down now, and she's 12 months!

However, as a result of this, I can help with slings if you like Grin - as a necessity I am now sling obsessed, or I would not have survived....

... if your sling is giving you backache, you either have the wrong sling for you, or it needs adjusting. A correctly fitted sling, which is the right type for your needs, should make your child feel weightless. Honest. And you should be able to put her happily on your back leaving you free to get on with other stuff.

I have walked miles, done all sort of housework, mowed the lawn, stripped wallpaper and painted walls, and more with DD on my back.... it was that or leaving her to cry on the floor...

So - if you like I can talk slings with you, or you could go to a sling meet for help? www.slingmeet.co.uk/forums/index.php

...Or someone else could help with putting the baby down!

Could try a swinging chair

TimeWasting · 08/07/2012 20:15

What sling have you got?

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 11:25

I have a Moby, and I'm sure I have it on right as used it with dc3 aswell, but I think my back is more sensitive after my fourth pregnancy, and I am quite active with 4 under 6.

I completely agree re not disturbing sleep during school runs etc which is why I have used it so much. She will sleep for ages in it.
I did think about a back carry in the coming months as with my other little ones a do lots of bending. But unfortunately not near a sling library or meet and don't want to buy something that is ultimately not more comfortable as I can't really afford to.

I do worry about her never self settling though if I continue sling use.

Also sometimes when she is wriggling during her sleep or trying to settle she accidentally bang her head on my collar bone and hurts herself anyone else experienced this, she is fine but sometimes wakes herself up doing it.

OK I found my stretchy sling started to hurt my back by the time DD reached 4 months - so moved on to a babyhawk mei tai, and woven wraps. You can't (or shouldn't!) do back carries with a stretchy like a moby - it's really dangerous.

You can get preloved mei tais and wraps on facebook slings and things FSOT - just ask to join the group, or on the Natural Mamas website.

If you feel confident then a woven wrap is the most versatile, but if you can't get to a sling meet then a mei tain, or a soft structured carrier like a connecta, ergo beco butterfly, beco gemini etc would probably be easiest :)

PM me if you want to ask anyting else!

LittleWaveyLines · 09/07/2012 16:18

Oh and lots of sling libraries post out and will do a telephone consultation at no extra charge :)

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 16:48

That's great thank you.

I have looked into all the ones you mentioned, think the problem is I want to try and get just one - the most suppose and comfortable, but they all look very similar hard to know the 'best' one.

Don't think I would confident to back wrap with a woven although never tried.

I would recommend the beco butterfly if you want to do back carries, but can't get expert help - it has an internal harness so you can put the baby in first, then swing it onto your back like a rucksack. I got one for our childminder and PILs to use - and they all get on with it great. It's getting a little small now at 12 months, but will do for a while longer.

I got mine for £65 preloved.

LittleWaveyLines · 09/07/2012 17:50

Oh and I currently have DD on my back asleep in a woven wrap - so I'm taking the opportunity to cook dinner as well as mumsnet! Grin

Mitsouko · 09/07/2012 18:30

I used a Mei Tai from Thailand around the house from birth, it was really nice! But now DD is a hefty 14 lbs the straps were starting to dig into my shoulders a bit. I am SO happy that she has finally grown into her Ergo - wore it for two hours today and it is a dream!

I bought it preloved from ebay for £40. They sell an infant insert for babies under 4 months, but I didn't bother - DD was 13 weeks when I won it so just been waiting for her to grow into it and get comfy.

The straps are nice and thickly padded. I love it.

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 19:16

Thank you, just seen an Ergo on fb and and Patapum? Which is 25. Anygood?

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 19:19

Not quite sure how I coped without one with dcs 1 and 2

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 19:24

little can't figure out how to pm on my phone, thanks for all your advice. Just had a quick look on fb and found the above for sale should I go for one :)
Whatever I get will be worn for extends periods. Heard lots about Ergo but wasn't sure if that's just because it's a well known make.
Haven't heard of Patapum but seems a good price

OP posts:
LittleWaveyLines · 09/07/2012 19:48

Sorry, been trying (unsuccessfully) to get DD into bed....

I haven't used a patapum, but I know people say they are good - TBH all these type are much of a muchness... £25 is a good price :) And if you don't like it, you can sell it on for the same price! Grin

threecurrantbuns · 09/07/2012 19:53
