Does separation anxiety cause falling asleep problems?

Hi mums, need you expert advice on something.
My 9 month old is going through a spout of separation anxiety and I suspect this is causing him trouble falling asleep. I can usually just put him down in his cot and he falls asleep but now he is very upset, cries a lot and is up on his hands and knees rocking backwards and forwards. I repeatedly go into him to comfort him and after a few cuddles and a few songs he falls asleep. Sometimes it takes 10 min, other times an hour. I sometimes need to breast feed him to settle him ( am down to one feed in the am and pm usually). Once asleep, he sleeps as usual.
Do you think this just a phase he will overcome and should i continue as I have been?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

My 8 month old is going through the same thing - she was self-settling really well but now gets upset as soon as we even approach the cot and is distraught by the time I try and put her down. I just wondered how you had got on? Has your little one started to feel more reassured? I hope so!

My 8.5 month old was sleeping really well for 2 months. Now for some reason she won't settle or stay asleep!

Hi ladies.
Unfortunately nothing has changed for me at all. I am still cuddling to sleep! I am still hoping he will just go back to how he was before but I think I'm dreaming! I was going to speak to the HV about this and see what they think.....althought I know what they will say. Put him down drowsy but awake and give lots of body contact. It just don't work!
Oh well, I'm sure he would have stopped doing this by the time he goes to school!
Any change with your babies?
