22mth old suddenly waking at 4:30 - help!!

My 22m old DD has in the last week started waking up at 4:30am for no apparent reason, and cries until we get her up. Her routine hasn't changed at all and I can't see any reason for it.

She is still tired but she will not go back off to sleep - even tried bringing her into our bed out of desperation but she just messes around until we give in.

I know she's cut a couple of side teeth recently but they haven't been bothering her and everything else is the same as it was - she normally wakes up at 6am.

Anybody any ideas why this is? It seems to be getting earlier by the day. Getting a bit desperate now!! Thanks

Hi..

My ds is same age.
It's an absolute pain in the arse when they do that.
Ds woke up at 4 am and has been awake since!
He normally wakes about 7ish.
There's very minimum routine here as he's been ill and has health problems so on a day his problems play up he goes to bed later.
He no longer sleeps in the day but of we are out in the car or pram he does nap.

I think it just might be it's bright outside very early.
I'm sorry not very helpful x

This sounds exactly like my 13 month old. My poor husband has for the last couple of weeks been getting up with our son anywhere between 2am and 4am. He won't settle in his cot, put him in bed with us and he climbs all over us. Take him downstairs and he happily plays sometimes just for a hour or so then wants a cuddle and will fall asleep on you and you can put him back in his cot or he will play right through till morning nap about 9am. It's a killer as we both work full time and he used to sleep right through so we are a bit rusty with the no sleep thing !! I'm in sympathy with you hope someone has some ideas Grin

Isitme1 - What's her daytime routine look like i.e. wake up time 6am, but when does she nap & how long for & when does she go to bed?

My DS was also a chronic early waker so I feel your pain. Our solution was to push his nap & bedtime later & that fixed the EW. We have also had to start cutting his nap back now because he's not falling asleep at bedtime until near to 8.30pm. I think we are getting close to the point when he'll need to drop his nap.

He doesn't sleep during day unless we are out ( in pram or car)
He wakes between 6-7am and is on his pump by 8.30 ( milk pump) he's peg tube fee. At that time he refuses breakfast.
He refuses to brush teeth.
Plays all day until next feed time. offer food then start pump.
Same thing all day. Plays and 1 hour break ( has to sit in high chair for an hour) X 3.
He has a bath every other day. He sleeps between
7.30-8.30.
He has health problems so If they are playing up he sleeps later than usual.
He woke at 4am today and has had 20 mins nap in the pram while we were out.

Has she ever napped during the day? When did she stop napping? If she did nap regularly until recently, when was her nap & how long did she nap for?

Have I got this right she usually goes to bed between 7.30-8.30pm and usually wakes at 6am, and that's even without a nap???

She is still quite young to have stopped napping, and that's quite a long day for her to be awake for without a nap, so I would guess she might be overtired. Especially since you say she seems tired when she wakes at 4.30am but can't seem to get back to sleep.

Could you try doing a much earlier bedtime, aim to have her asleep for around 6pm & see if she sleeps any better? Many people are afraid of early bedtimes but they can actually help them to sleep for longer.

He's only just in the past few weeks started with the no sleeping during day.
No matter how I try he just won't sleep!
He should stat asleep now lol.
With earlier bed times it ruins his feeding.
He's tube fed 4times a day. 3 times in High chair and once in bed.
He gets atleast 3 hours rest in his chair.
He's full of beans!
