Aspartame and MSG - RESULT!!

Bit of background: For the past 15 years or so, I've been an insomniac. Problems got so bad recently that I was at the end of my tether. On an average night, I might get 4 hours of broken sleep. Normally two to start them the rest in small chunks with big periods of wakefulness in between.

Tried every sleeping aid, many different prescription drugs too. Lovely GP was about to refer for CBT.

Read about links to aspartame and insomnia online and decided it might be worth a shot. Not easy as it's used in do many products. I'm doing Slimming World so I was eating quite a lot in Muller Lights, Diet Coke etc.

I've given up both for 6 weeks now and it's been a revelation! I get about 7 hours now, maybe awake once or twice for wees and then back to sleep. I can't believe after suffering for so long it's been something that I can change so easily!

Just thought I'd share incase there's anyone else out there who could try it.

Wow, I bet you feel great!

I don't touch artificial ingredients, these things are made out to be harmless.
There is a lot of information about the negative effects of these things online.
Flouride is another I don't touch.

I've been an insomniac for 20 years. Have avoided aspartame and msg for a good 10 years. Sleep still evades me I'm afraid.

I am pleased for you op that it's working. I gave up the same in the hope of reducing migraine attacks but it didn't make a bit of differenceSad

Oh no! Sorry to hear that sleep still evades you. It's horrible stuff when you look into the effects. I also suffer from migraines, about 3-4 bad attacks a year, so not hugely regular like some people. Not had any yet, but then not sure I would have one anyway.

Insomnia is so bloody awful. All my family get it, so it's definitely hereditary. Sad

I've suffered since I had my son 13 years ago.
It started to improve then I got pregnant and now have a very demanding baby that doesn't let me sleep.
I still have trouble sometimes.
It's awful, I feel genuinely poorly if I don't sleep.
