Help please if you have used CC / CIO - a question

I have an 8 month DS who has always been an awful sleeper - lots of night wakings (although they are also not as bad as they were) and has to be rocked/tapped on back to sleep.

Today, as I was trying to put DS down for nap & had started rocking/tapping. I then had to leave him crying for 5/10 minutes (he managed to gouge my lip & had to go sort myself out as leaking blood everywhere!) By time I came upstairs I could hear that he was also grizzly-crying, the noise he makes as he falls asleep sometimes. So I stood outside the door and within 5 minutes it went silent and when I checked he was asleep.

So, I think I should bite the bullet and use this as the start of sleep training. But as he was left alone today and fell asleep should I try CIO as opposed to CC? I wouldnt be happy leaving him for very long, but I think he may take longer to settle if I keep going in and out as you do with CC. Although, CC did originally appeal more as it seemed less "cruel".

Does anyone have any suggestions? Could I do CC but give him 15 minutes first before going in, or does CC have to be the 2,4,8 minute intervals or whatever? Thanks for any help or suggestions

I think if he's crying for under 15 minutes to get to sleep it is not really cry it out or CC, more of a cry down iyswim? I would wait 15 minutes before going in and comforting, it could have been a one of or he might just be an easy baby.

I put my 7 mo DTs in their cots after bedtime feeds, put mobile on, play the lullabies on their monitor and leave the room. If they have not stopped grizzling by the time the music stops (its on a 15 min timer)I will go back in but not before unless it's proper crying. Very very rarely do I have to go back in.

Well so far the naps have resulted in about 25 mins of crying, I have been going in every 5 minutes. I havent tackled bedtime yet - as he has fallen asleep whilst feeding. I know I need to change this too but I'm hoping that DS self settling for naps will then make tackling bedtime a little easier/quicker - fingers crossed!

CC didn't work with DS1, he actually was more aggravated by my coming in and out. So we left him CIO. Yes it was unpleasant but did not last hours and worked fine after 3 days (with crying time reducing each day).

If you look up sleep store, it's a New Zealand website and their verbal reassurance method. It explains it step by step and really worked for us c
