DD seems to be trying to drop one her naps, unsuccessfully

DD is 5mo. She has, typically, woke at 6.30am for a feed, and a bum change then gone back to sleep til 8am. She then manages 2 hours of awake time in between each 45min / 1 hour nap.

For the last few days she has not gone back down after her 6.30 bottle, which is fine, but then even after two hours, she gets grumpy and whiney but still wont go to sleep. The last couple of days, we have put her in the buggy and took her for a loooooonnnnnng walk, which she stays awake for Grin

She has then had a bottle at 10 and gone down for a sleep around 10.30. Going from 2 hours awake time to 4 hours just seems like a massive jump.

I don't mind, per say, I just find that she is grumpy and hard work for a good chunk of that time and just will not sleep, even though I can see she is tired.

hmmm. I seem to recall at that age my LO went from doing roughly 2hrs awake to more like 2.5hrs awake time, and 45min naps are a typical sign of not being quite tired enough to sleep for a longer more restorative nap. So it may be that she is no longer tired enough when you put her down at the 2hr mark, but because she goes down too early she then gets worked up & then ends up overtired IYSWIM?

IIWM I would probably just try putting her down for her usual nap perhaps 15-30mins later than usual & see if she will settle. My worry if you continue with the 10.30am nap is that she is likely to get very overtired. 4hrs is a really long time for a 5 month old to stay awake for & is more like what an 8-12 month old can do.

D'you think she could be hungry for her bottle earlier than 10 am and that's maybe keeping her awake? Could be a growth spurt maybe.

Good idea with the putting her down 15 mins later than normal. As soon as I put her down though, she is eye rubbing and grabning her teddy and showing real 'sleepy' signs. Its like she half falls asleep and then cries and cries.

Thankfully, today she woke at 6.30, fed and went back down till 7.30 and has had a 9am bottle then gone down okayish just now.

I think also, with it being so warm, she just hasn't been drinking much milk, so if we offer her a bottle earlier than 'normal' she just has one or two ounces.

Gosh, as soon as you think you've got one thing sorted another one pops up Grin

Could very well be a growth spurt, she is increcibly long.

My DD went from 1.5 to 3 hrs awake time almost overnight. It really took me by surprise. She was about 6 months old. But I agree if yours is anything like mine, the heat can throw them off.
