Cough disrupting DD's sleep....again

DD (almost 8 months) is not a good sleeper but we feel we've made some progress over the last few weeks (mainly by being super-consistent with naps / bedtime etc and lots of shush-patting to sleep). She has even self settled a couple of times :)

Now she has got ANOTHER sodding cold and cough. Got her down for a nap at 9am and she woke at 9.05am coughing. She coughs about every 30 seconds - seriously. I am so frustrated by it. We were up for from 12am to 1.30am this morning with constant coughing, then again at 4.30am....

We had the same issue about 3-4 weeks ago (and 3-4 weeks before that) and I am just FED UP with colds and coughs. It is almost June for Pete's sake. We'll be back into propery cold season in a few months!!

Not sure what advice I'm looking for, just some solidarity would be great!

It's horrid isn't it. Can you raise the head of her cot a little to help her breathing? Also we were recommended the Calpol vapouriser which plugs into the plug which plugs into a plug socket and you insert a pad into it which smells quite amazing and is supposed to help congestion etc. We used it once and it seemed to help. DS's room still smells slightly fragrant though - 2 weeks later.

And don't forget, she's just building up her immune system.

Thank you. Yes we have the Karvol (sp?) vapouriser which helped when she was really blocked up at the beginning of this week but doesn't help much with the lingering cough. We have raised the head of her cot in the past but she's more mobile in her sleep now and was often waking up upside down because her head was lower than her body!

I know - it's just a phase - but so frustrating. We have a DS as well (almost 3 yo) so she picks up everything from him. Doesn't help when he coughs in her face Hmm

littledoe my 7 mo DD had the same problem - repeated colds and a persistent dry cough that was never ending. We were in and out of the GP every week and kept being told there was nothing that could be done.

In desperation, after several weeks of fecking hourly wake ups, I called out a cranial osteopath. She found a tightness in her diaphragm and rib cage, which she loosened. We had one night of very bad coughing afterwards, but this time it was a proper productive cough that was bringing up mucus. Since then she's not woken herself up with coughing at all. It took about 2 days for the cough to clear up. Worth a thought?

Thanks Lucidlady. Wouldn't have thought of cranial osteopathy so might give that a go. She had bronchiolitis when she was 10 weeks old and although she's a really healthy little thing, the one weakness she still has a result of that is the cough.

I feel your pain. My 13mo DS has just started nursery a few weeks ago and he just seems to be full of bugs constantly Sad.

The coughing is driving me bananas as well as keeping the poor wee man awake half the night! I've sent him off to bed tonight with baby vicks rubbed on his feet as well as his chest and so far no coughing!!

A few people have told me about the vicks on the feet trick. Think its a bit of an old wives tale, but do you know what, it seems to work so im sticking with it!!!!
