Please help, my DS is five months old and has started waking at 5am wide awake wanting to get up. We had him in a sourt of routine but he had cold a couple of weeks ago and this seemed to throw him out of things. We was bathing him at 7pm and he was going to sleep until 3am waking for milk and then sleeping through till 7am. Then he had the cold and everything went pear shaped. We kept to the same routine but he was still waking during the night for a feed and then waking at 5am. Plus he only naps for about half an hour at a time during the day. I have tried to keep him in a routine (baby whisper book) but when he is hungry he cries and cries and cries until he has his feed so i can not seem to stick to the times recommended (roughly). Please help i am due to go back to work in a couple of weeks and this will kill me waking at five!!!

Modsaluk your situation sounds so much like mine! My DS has been doing the same after a cold and seems to be getting hungrier too! I go back to work in 3 weeks and should be getting up at 7, but he goes down at 7pm, wakes 12-1am, then about 5am and I'm supposed to get up at7am! I also cannot get DS to nap for more than half an hour at the time. he's BF and I don't know if I'll be able to keep expressing this much when I go back to work!
I know this is no help to you, but I thought I'd let you know that there is someone in the same position!
I'll be watching this thread carefully for welcome advice!

My DS was BF but has recently gone onto formula about a month ago so not sure if this had a influence. I was worried too about expressing enough milk as never could express much at all at the best of times.

can i ask you what formula you moved onto. ds refused aptimil.

modsaluk · 18/02/2006 21:02

Sorry to reply so late, DS went on to Aptimil First and took to it great. My HV informed me this was the closest to breastmilk. HV also said if he would not take it to mix half and half with breastmilk and then lower the amoutn of breastmilk i put in the bottles.

i think i'll try that. have got a wee carton of cow and gate for hungrier babies, but just now i've just been feeding him more and more breastmilk while weaning. i can't believe how hungry he is.
other than that he's brilliant!

mods what tie did he get up properly yesterday morning? and when exactly did he nap and for how long? how much milk/formula did he have all day and when, i think all these things contribute and if u are doing the baby whipserer routine it shouldnt be too diff to get him back on track

modsaluk · 21/02/2006 12:14

Not following the baby whisper routine as never really needed to, just read up on it recently.

He woke at 6 yesterday morning, he only sleeps for about half an hour at at time during the day and has around 6 naps a day. he is drinking around 40 onz a day on average.
