Any advice on how to arrange sheets & blankets on babys cot?

Hi guys, i know this may sound daft but I need some advice on how to dress the cot in preperation for babys arrival in a few weeks. I have bought lovely Jersey fitted sheets (these went on fine) and jersey flat sheets and cotton cellular blankets. I have just spent an hour trying to make them look nice & fold them neatly but whatever i do it looks a mess :(

Any advice/tips for making it properly and to look nice would be greatly appriciated, Thanks XX

Is baby going straight in a cot, if not then save nice sheets for when they do as they will get dusty (and grubby if you use cot as changing table)
I put a lovely blanket my nan knitted folded at the end and some cute teddies. Once DS went in cot I took them all out so he did not get smothered at night and bankett is way to big for him now.
He has a sheet over matress, small wool blanket if it is chilly and a few small soft toys.

Before I found grobags with my first I made up the crib with the fitted sheet underneath, then the top sheet laid sideways over the bottom half of the crib, then the blanket laid sideways over the bottom third of the crib. Tucked the ends of both under, then folded the top of the sheet over the blanket and tucked the sides in. Teddy on top and voila - beautiful.

It brought tears to my eye but the moment the baby went in there it all went completely to pot. The little bugger darling never stayed still so it was untucked in seconds minutes.

I got a sleeping bag for him within the week and never looked back. Wink

We just had a sheet and used swaddle blanket initially.

To be honest, I don't think cots look that nice or dressed, because of safety issues.

Congrats and good luck!

We also folded a muslin up and tucked each end into each side, as DS1 was so sicky. It saved washing the whole sheet each time he projectile vomited.

Oh yes a muslin on top of the sheet at head area saves the sheet from lots of sicky dribbles.

another vote here for grobags, DD was big enough to use one as soon as we came home from hospital we tucked a fleece blanket under the mattress so her head lay on that during the winter months but now we just have a fitted sheet on the mattress and she's in her grobag

Our house is quite hot no matter what we do so I just used a fitted bottom sheet in the crib and then a celular blanket sideways over the bottom half of the crib. By week 12 (I think) DD was kicking the blankets off her so I ended up buying grobags, have never looked back and have a tonne of them now!!

I just had a fitted sheet and a grobag. No bumper or toys due to safety reasons - simple is best!
