Fighting Sleep....

FushiasFairy · 06/05/2012 11:22

I have a 14mo DD who has currently been awake from around 6:30, has guzzled two 8oz bottles, fallen asleep once in my arms but then woke up screaming and proceeded to throw up on me. She's now shattered yet STILL fighting it.

This happens a lot with a lot of fidgeting and moaning and i'm just at a loss as to what to do. When she does eventually nap it can be soundly for up to three hours but it's the fighting it that drives me crazy!

Any tips/advice/similar situations would be appreciated!

How do you get her to nap? Do you put her in her cot or take her out in the car/buggy? What do you do before nap time? How many naps does she have in the day and what time does she go to bed and get up?

Wondered if you'd read this book too? I haven't read that one but we used her No Cry Sleep Solution with DS and found it really useful.

I'm still feeding to sleep at the moment, as it's (or was) the only way she'd settle, sometimes she naps in her buggy but usually I just feed her in the living room and pop her in bed once she's asleep. Before nap time is obviously breakfast, and playtime but it varies a lot after that obviously depending on what we do that day. When we do go out I try and head out for around 10 - 11am so she can have her nap in the buggy - she falls asleep fine in that.
At the moment she's going down at 7, and on average waking up around 7:30 but still isn't sleeping through.

I've red the NCSS, but it was too complicated for me and i'm guessing the Nap copy is similar?

Quite often feeding to sleep does stop working, I know it did for my DD when she was 14 months.

Have you tried keeping her awake till later in the morning, say noon and only letting her have one sleep? Do you take her outside first thing? Know it's a pain but it really does help with sleep.

This might help and 31 ways to get your baby to sleep and stay asleep has some great tips in it too Smile.

Generally she'll get tired two - three hours after waking up but fights it until noon anyway, and she only has one sleep. I don't normally take her out first thing as i'm 3months pregnant and feel rubbish in the mornings :(

Thank you, I shall have a read :)

Poor you, its crap when you are pg and tired isn't it. How has she been today?

FushiasFairy · 08/05/2012 11:49

Sorry for late reply, yes it is pretty crap! Things are getting better now though, realised she was just over tired and she's now going down for a nap at 10am every day with no struggle (as long as I don't miss the window of her being ready to nap!) :)
