so sorry - we have had a few horrible days like this lately. Teething powder from boots helped - homeopathic stuff. But it lasted about 2 hours so not so good for sleeping at night so we did give her calpol in the end and that put her out for the night. Perhaps take him out in the car.

not sure about the stools and wind though - something he ate or teethiing? dd's nappies really stink at the moment - wet ones

donaldduck · 13/02/2006 22:00

I'm not sue if it is connected at all but dd has a tooth coming through and has been up twice tonight with wind - this was after quite a few burps after her bedtime bottle.

My ds is 10 months and has constantly teethed since he was 4 months. He has 8 teeth. He suffers really badly when he is teething. This seems like a really strange thing to do but the only way he seems to sooth the teeth is to suck on the end of a cold glass beer bottle. He runs his teeth along the ridges and it must be really soothing. He wont take a dummy at all when teething. Dont know about the poo and wind, never had that problem. I agree with gingernutlover unless you want to be up all night I would give him something to sleep temporarily. My ds last tooth took two weeks to come through. Bonjela makes him puke. If you find something that works please post.

Thanks everyone. for all ds screaming last night he slept from 7 til 7. only woke once for his dummy. he seems slightly better today but still grumpy and still wont nap. had originally done the pick up put down thing as he was a terrible sleeper.this worked for a while but now he is worse. once teething has calmed downim considering controlled crying as he cant seem to settle himself. doesanyone know how to do controlled crying?

try Children's Neurofen as it is pain reliever and an anti-inflammatory (which calpol is not). I'm also a fan of Ashton & Parson's teething powder.

poppiesinaline · 14/02/2006 12:03

Anbesol is stronger than Bonjela I think. LOL at the beerbottle Thirdtime round.

CC = you leave them to cry for 5 mins. You then go in and comfort them. Try not to pick up though, settle without if possible. Then walk out the room. Leave them to cry for 7 mins. Settle as before. Walk out room. Leave them to cry for 9 mins etc etc (add 2 mins each time) Some people add 5 mins each time.

LittleB · 14/02/2006 12:37

I used ambesol and baby nurofen and they helped, but dd (now 9 months) wouldn't settle well after waking lots from a cold and teething. I wouldn't do controlled crying when they are in pain, but we did a gentler version when she was better. I would settle her and then stay in the room where she could see me whilst she grumbled and whinged, then go to her at 2mins, then 4 mins, 7 mins, 10 mins etc. to settle her again without picking her up, until she was asleep, (usuall by 4 or 7 mins). But if she started properly crying I would pick her up, mainly because if left she gets in such a state she's sick and then takes ages to settle and I can't bear to hear her scream. This gentler approach, recommended by my HV, worked and she now sleeps 7-6.30 most nights, and will settle very quickly when she occaisionally wakes. I hope this helps.

enfys · 14/02/2006 13:26

we give neurofen about two hrs before bed with his tea and then medised on settling and it seems to help... not perfect though. ds gets bad (!!!!!) poo when he is teething but also seems to have had a permenent cold since he has been teething so it might be that causing the green/loose nappies. we also found ashton and newton powders quite good.

I agree Anbesol is the best teething get , i have ever use. That is my opinion.

I have tried every single teething gels etc. Anbesol is the strongest, it work like a treat for my son. When he is teething!

How is son now? LynseyM

DS is 5 months and is teething - dribbling everywhere, hands constantly in mouth and crying a lot! Have tried the ashtons and parsons and it doesn't seem to be doing much. Past two nights have had to give a teeny amount of calpol to get him to go to sleep as he had been fighting sleep all day and was in a right state. Have also been using dentinox gel but doesn't seem to do anything. Where can I get this ambesol gel and can I use it on DS at 5 monhts old?

It's called Anbesol, you can get it at the chemist and it's pretty strong stuff, so ask the pharmacist!

ibuprofen is great for teething pain. FGS, don't do sleep "training" when she's in pain. babies and toddlers can't rationalise pain like adults do.
