Nearly 6 months old baby and still feeding twice during the night - hungry baby formula?

This is our second baby and we have the same problem. Even though I have now just switched to formula feeding, my ds still wakes at midnight and 3 then 5 during the night and wants a feed. He seems to drink enough during the day (about four 6 oz bottles) but still needs two more 6 oz bottles in the night. It's exhausting!

A hv said its because of a tall parent (daddy is 6' 4'') others have said its habit or comfort .... But he seems hungry and I can hear his tummy groaling

I was considering hungry baby formula for the last feed but wanted opinion on that first as heard its full of crap they can't digest.

He's not on solids yet and wanted to do baby led weaning which doesn't exactly get food into them to fill them ... Not sure solids is actually the answer

Help!

Jojokaty, no advice really, just an opinion - I think this is completely normal behaviour for a 6-month old. My DS was waking up three times every night to boob-feed until he was about 14 months even though he ate loads of solid food during the day. This was also the experience of about 50% of my baby friends. I don't think it's about hunger. They just want comfort which is food and cuddles. If you can stand this - just go along with the flow, if not - you can try "doing something", although don't feel guilty if it does not work. Good luck.

4 x 6oz doesnt seem much for a 6 month old baby that isnt on solids. have you tried offering more in the daytime bottles or offering them more often so that you can fit in more bottles to try to minimise night wakings.

My ds is 4 months and has four 8oz bottles during the day and usually finishes them, he wakes once or twice in the night when I bf him. He is on hungry baby formula and he seems to be ok with it. In the night I do think its a comfort thing but he doesn't usually wake until about 4 or 5 from going down at about half 8. Maybe try 7oz during the day? I didn't go straight onto hungry milk I gradually increased and replaced a bottle every few days.

My DS was on 6 feeds a day (8 oz) at that age between 8 am and 11pm. He was also on three meals a day. I would imagine that he does need the milk.

I wouldn't use hungry baby formula, it has a different composition and is even further away from breast milk than regular formula. Plus he doesn't sound especially hungry.

This is completely normal. Formula or baby rice sadly doesn't make them stop feeling hungry or thirsty. Despite what they want you to think. Those well meaning people giving advice can't see your LO at night. Only you can tell if he is genuinely hungry. Mine slept through on bf alone until 6mo. Then needing feeds from 6mo once we started weaning! She still wakes up occasionally at night for food at 13mo. But more commonly she wakes up scared wanting cuddles from daddy. Sad it's exhausting.

BTW I wake up hungry if DD wakes me. Often I went to the kitchen and grab something to eat. I also have a bottle of water in the bedroom. I'm of the opinion they will only not feel the hunger if they sleep through.
