Baby trying to crawl in sleep. Waking up crying every hour or so.

DS has never been a partiuclarly good sleeper, but over the last week or so he's been worse than ever. I put him to sleep on his back, but every hour or so I will hear a scream and go in to find him on his tummy, desperately pushing up and crying his eyes out. Last night I coslept in the hope it would help keep him settled and I discovered that he is rolling over and trying to crawl while still fast asleep (bless!) and waking himself up by falling flat on his face Sad He seems to have forgotten how to roll onto his back so is getting very upset.

Has anyone had this? How long did it last? Any ideas for helping him?

Thanks.

aww bless him, how old is he? has he just learned to crawl:?

No. He can't crawl! That's the problem. He just face plants. Poor love.

He only seems to try crawling when BFing (we usually feed lying down) or sleeping. If we put him on his belly at any other time he whinges until we pick him up. He generally prefers being on his feet (can hold himself up against sofa etc) or sitting up.

I'm afraid I have no solution, we had to ride it out... DS did this too, I think it lasted for 2-3 weeks, and then he realised sleeping on his tummy is more comfortable. The flipside is that he slept better afterwards.

When they are learning a new skill they have the compulsion to practice all the time, they can't switch off in their sleep. It will pass, but I know how frustrating and tiring it can be until it does.
