My son's 1st pillow??? Silly question..........................

Hello I know I ramble on a bit with questions but...

My 19month ds is still in his cot but I would like to get him a pillow...

My 1st quilt and pillow when I was younger were feather ones... I once tried a hollowfibre pillow and quilt and got a dust allergy from it!
Anyway, I always thought kids were supposed to have the hollowfibre sort, then recently read somewhere that 'allergy free' pillows were actually found to have higher levels of dust mites/allergens etc... in them than the feather ones after all?

So suppose I've just answered this question myself really but which sort do your children have?

TIA

laura,

i got dd pillow from mothercare, small enough to fit in cot and not too bulky on the neck.

Around £12 i think, a few years ago.

would be interested to hear the answer since I've just bought ds an allergy free pillow .

Depends what you're allergic to!

Our house is a hotbed of fur / feather allergies, so hollowfibre duvets & pillows are the norm - not had any dust mite allergies to my knowledge.

It might also depend on how often you washed the hollofibre pillow.

We are an all feather and down house.

You can wash them at 60 amd tumble dry them. It kills all the yucky things and doesn't make them go all lumpy. Washable is essential IMO. DD2 threw up all over hers on Monday night.

just a quick one - very helpful man in john lewis told me not to give very young children a new pillow as they can be too plump and hurt their necks. He said the best thing do to is give them one that you have been using for a while and is a bit flatter.

the Ikea cot pillow is perfect for little heads.

Got a hollowfibre duvet set and pillow from Argos - the kiddies one - pillow lovely and flat for a wee one. Someone from MN advised it and its been fine.
