Dropping naps

we went though this with DS1, but I had forgotten all about it. DS2 is 26 months and really needs to drop his nap but is too tired to stay awake. So we either try to keep him awake and he drops off at about 5pm or we give him a nap and he is awake until 10pm. Like tonight when I went up again and he had taken his bed, pyjamas and nappy off and was singing at the top of his voice. The rest of the household is fast asleep! It will pass, but FFS it's a PITA [bugrin]

Did you try cutting his nap first? Even so it's only 20 minutes?

we have tried waking him but he seems to think no matter how much sleep he's had it is enough and then we have a miserable boy who stays up until 10pm rather than a happy boy. Ah well

I feel your pain. It can be a really difficult time and early bedtime is generally the way forward although 5pm is quite early. What happens if he goes to sleep at 5pm? Will he wake early the next day?

We have tried a nap every three/four days but we weren't having the 5pm bedtimes to deal with!

Yes, a very early night would mean waking at about 5am! I think I would rather the late nights. Never mind he'll get though it

He will! Time will certainly cure this problem. :)

so today he napped until 4.30pm Shock and is still awake now! TBH he is quiet and playing with his Fireman Sam fire engine, so not really that bothered. It's when he sings and shrieks that I get a tad tetchy. Thanks though loveis your support is appreciated Smile

How come he's napping so late? Do you let him nap whenever he wants and for how long he wants? If so, that might be the root cause of the problem, that his daytime sleep is so irregular day to day.

When I cut my DD's naps, she was on the same amount e.g. 20 mins every day regardless of how her nights had gone.
