Is it teething that's made him cranky?

DS is 4 and a half months and for the past few days and nights I've had to rock him for him to go to sleep. I've never had to do this before. He normally gets himslef off to sleep, but recently has been lying there 'growling' and getting more and more wound up until I go in a rock him to sleep in my arms. He's over 18lbs so is VERY heavy and my back is now killing me. Is this a phase due to teething (he's dribling a lot and keeps shoving his fingers in his mouth). Last night I had to resort to giving him some calpol becuase he was SO tired but just couldnt get to sleep.

A lot of babies suddenly develop sleep probs at 4 months or so. It seems to be just a developmental thing. There are loads of threads about it!!! I found that time was the only answer - it eventually got better. One really good thread I can remember is "Week 19 in the house of no sleep" - long but worth a look.

did the calpol work?
could you push his cot up to the side of your bed and then you can lay beside him and stroke his face for comfort? or sit on the couch rocking him?

Try some aston & parsons teeting powders they are magic.

Tracyk - the calpol did work but I really don't want to be giving him that all the time. Pesme - we've been giving him the powders for a few days now, they worked at the beginning but the effect is now wearing off! Calpol seems to work wonders but only want to use it if absolutley nec.

The powders never worked for us. I would just give a tiny dose of calpol - even now with ds almost 2 - if I give him it it's only about a quarter of the spoon. but it takes the edge off the pain.
