Shit my 15 mo can almost climb out of her cot

That's too young for a bed though isn't it? Any ideas? Can I get something to make the cot sides higher? A friend recommended a cot bed so at least there are three sides to it, but can't really afford to get one or have space for that and current cot, but want to keep current cot in case we have another baby. The other morning I went into her room to find her with one ankle over the bars, not long before she is able to p0ull herse3lf up or work out than a bundled up blanket will give her the extra inches needed to get out. Aaaargh.

I wouldn't be to comfortable with raising the height any further as she might still climb and then fall further, IYSWIM.

Could you get a bed and some bedrails/ guards that anchor under the mattress?

Once they can climb it's a bed I'm afraid otherwise they will frighten you to death like my DS did when he went head first over the bars ( he was shell shocked but fine although he did make an almighty bump)
We put him in a bed and a stair gate on his door, it took a while but he did finally settle in a bed and the stair gate stopped too much nighttime wandering.

what about using a sleeping bag instead of blankets? I find that is very effective in preventing DS from climbing whilst in bed.

Mine climbed out of cot early. If you feel it's too early for a bed, just put the cot mattress on the floor and make sure room is safe. We did this and just put him in a big bed at 21 months.

I can't remember how old my Dds were when they climbed out, but they certainly stayed in the cot for some time. I used to leave the drop side down and they just used to hop in and out.

If you are leaving the cot as it is, please put plenty of cushions and padding on the floor for a soft landing.

A bed with bed rails and cushions on the floor works well. A large stairgate at the door will stop night wanderings out of the room. You may have to obtain a large one that is usually used for dogs and obtainable from a pet shop.

Have you tried a sleeping bag? my 2 year old could easily climb out but he can get his leg up high enough because of sleeping bag.

Monstermama · 02/04/2012 23:38

sorry he CANT get his leg up high enough because of sleeping bag.

Not too young for a bed IMHO. Both mine went into beds around that age, with a rail on the side. The only downside was the putting them back into bed 50 million times for the first few nights.

Wouldn't bother with a cotbed really, just go for a single and put current cot in the attic for next baby if wished.

Take the cot side off.
