My ds is 15 months old on the verge of walking just got her 4 top teeth through and generally is happy and well but for the last 3 months or so she keeps waking at night there is no rhyme or reason but it seems to be getting worse. She will prob have 2 nights a week where she sleeps through but the rest of the time wakes about 10 and won't settle again till nearly 2. It's not the same times every night but everyday now she is cranky cod of her night time sleep. Up until till this point she was fab at night mostly sleeping through still goes to bed like a dream self settles no problem. Am at a loss what to do as I am shattered myself and the whole thing is getting me down, any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :-)

what's her daytime routine i.e. what time does she wake up, what time(s) does she nap & how long for & what time does she go to bed?

Hi thanks for replying she normally wakes around 7ish has a long nap about 9ish till 11ish then a cat nap in the aft in we are about in pram or car just 40 mins. She goes to bed anytime between 6 and 7 depending how tired she is.

Hmmmm. Agree teething may be to blame for the lengthy NW's esp if they are unhappy. Yet if she is awake & happy at night I'd be more inclined to say she is UT. At 15 months it might be that 2h 40 is too much day sleep now. What time does she usually take that afternoon CN? If its late it might be interfering with her night sleep. Have you considered giving her one long nap around lunchtime instead of the 2 naps? That AM nap is actually quite early on - I'm actually surprised you haven't had any early waking!

My DS is the same at 17months, and has been for about the last 3 or 4 months. He has been a great sleeper and we have come to the conclusion that interrupted nights are because of teeth or feeling poorly, usually an ear infection, which can go by unnoticed. We have just got through a week of it and an inscisor has popped through out of nowhere, no red cheeks or drooling at all. Poor soul :(

Hi omama I know the long morning nap is a bit weird seeing as most babies have a long sleep in the aft!! But that's the pattern she has got into. The cat nap is usually about 3 so it's not too late. I was thinking about trying to condense it all into 1 nap what times do you think? Ps she only has 1 nap on a Monday as she at grandmas all day and we had the night from hell that night!! :-( there is no pattern at all x

If you want to switch to 1 nap to start with you might need to move the AM nap very gradually later by 15mins every 3-5 days until it starts at 11am. At the same time the PM nap will get later & later (you might need to cut this shorter so she is tired enough for bed). By the time the AM nap starts at 11am, you should be able to drop the PM nap & instead do an early bedtime. Once she is used to having a single nap you can then gradually shift it later so it starts just after lunch at 12 or 12.30.

The trouble with doing a 1 nap day with her nap where it currently is at 9-11am, is that she will be awake a very long time between nap & bedtime & so she will be overtired at bedtime & this is likely to lead to difficulty in settling & lots of NW's. This is why its important to get that big nap across lunchtime - so she's not got so long to last until bedtime.

I think while you keep the nap early you might find the NW continue, because she can use that morning nap to catch up on the sleep she is missing at night.
