6MO won't nap in cot during the day, and wakes at night

At about 3months we took DD to visit my parents for a month. She barely slept at all during the days while staying with them, but slept through every night from 11pm to 7am for the entire month we were there.

When we got home we became stricter about bedtimes, and settled her at about 7.30 pm. She would sleep straight away, but wake from about 2am onwards through the night due to terrible wind screaming in pain. We've tried every remedy you can think of, plus raising the head of her bed etc, but nothing helps. We have to lift and rock her to release the gas. GPs can't help. We've been waiting for weeks for a paed appointment and will at last be seeing someone on Friday.

(We did have a window of three weeks where things seemed to come right for her - which is why I don't think the tummy probs are colic ...)

She has never allowed me to settle her in her cot during the day, only sleeping on me or in the car seat or sometimes in a pram. Because of her tummy problems and bad nights, I haven't pushed this too much, thinking any sleep is better than none, but things have been getting worse.

I started her on solids and the tummy issues worsened, DD sometimes waking every half hour through the night. So we're back to BM only (she's 6.5 months now). But she is still waking several times in the night. Last night I could tell it was extreme hunger.

She has also started waking in the early evening too, before 11pm, which is a new thing.

As soon as we get past her tummy problems I want to try sleep training and I really need her to nap during the day. I am really worried that the drawn out tummy problems and no day time formal cot naps EVER have totally screwed us, and I don't know where or when or how to start with training.

Any thoughts or advice?

A friend of mine told me (when I was struggling with DS taking only v short naps) that if you can get them to nap ANYWHERE then that's the first step. She got her dd to nap by rocking the pram indoors, then stopping the rocking just as she fell asleep. If she stirred, the rocking began again for just enough time to get her to drop off again. Eventually, she was able to self-settle in a motionless pram. Then they moved the pram insert to the cot, etc etc, one step at a time.

Could be worth a try?

I hope you get some good advice for the tummy problems. Good luck with everything
