The title basically says it all. We might get a two hr stretch from 10 till 12 ish but then DD up every hr. not always hunger at all- sometimes wind, and sometimes just up. It's been going on for 2 weeks now- will it change, and is there anything I can do about it?

DS (2) also waking frequently at night at the moment and up at 5 this morning to start the day so guess am feeling a little sorry for myself.

Oh poor you, I don't have the answer you're looking for but I just could not leave you unanswered! My youngest is now 2 and it has been such a rough ride, she was such a bad sleeper, compared to my eldest who was brillian. I definitely remember that phase when she was 6 weeks and DD1 was 2.5yrs. Night after night after night.... it's sould destroying and I know how desperately tired you feel.

I hope for you you have some help and company in the day time, and a chance to just sit around and not do too much? Someone to take older ds out?

It will pass, not sure how, or when, but it will!
In the meantime try not to have too high an expectation of what you can achieve in a day.
My biggest mistake was that I kept going to the baby fearing that her noise would wake the older one.

With my first child I used to leave her more in the night, and most of the time she would just go back to sleep of her own accord. But with the second I'd be jumping up at every snuffle.

Normal (but hard!)

Could be a growth spurt.

Does your baby sleep better if you co-sleep?

Suchanamateur · 24/03/2012 08:36

Thanks both. We already co-sleep and no better unfortunately. I guess at least it cuts down on long resettling times. Good to her normal though. First born terrible sleeper do no idea what is normal and what a harbinger of disaster!

My dd was the same, I was feeding her every 1 to 2 hours but gradually improved. Just as she hit 12 weeks she started sleeping 7-1am then every 2/3 hours which for me was wonderful.

We used to swaddle her which helped then also bought vtech violet lullaby toy. It plays enviromental sounds for 10 or 20 mins which really really helped settle her

It's so hard isn't it......

neverinamillionyears · 24/03/2012 08:54

Sorry its a leapfrog twinkle twinkle little violet.

JugsMcGee · 24/03/2012 13:47

6 weeks is a huge growth spurt and a development leap all in one. I found it so tough. It does pass though, he was sleeping really well by 10 weeks :)

Suchanamateur · 24/03/2012 17:55

never, jugs - thanks for the words of hope. Perhaps your DC could have a quiet word with DD on the babyvine?

I have a 4 wo and am having the same problem. I don't know that the solution is, but just wanted to commiserate with you, I feel your pain, I'm shattered with the constant waking up and inability to settle. He does not sleep AT ALL!

Suchanamateur · 24/03/2012 18:15

Mamas sorry about your matchsticks, too. How is day sleep?

Thanks, he sleeps fine in the day, but springs to life at night. He gets wind and then can't settle, so frustrating. I'm up at all hours of the night willing him to sleep, lets hope this phase doesn't last long.

5 week old here also seemingly never sleeping -secretly drinking red bull I think. DP commented earlier that the united nations would class this as actual torture. Feel your pain Sad hope it passes soon x

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 26/03/2012 17:57

Don't know what the answer is...2 week old also sleeps beautifully during the day but wants to do nothing but feed at night - for 5 hours straight, with only catnaps to keep herself going. Then she gets hiccups and wakes up again...
