Will daytime naps have to end when we move into a bed?

DS is 2.2 & will be moving into a big boy bed at the weekend. I'm 7 months pg, so want to get this out of the way before baby comes.
he is very excited about his room & tells people what colour it is & stickers are on the wall etc

He has generally always been a pretty good sleeper & normally settles well at night.

However, his daytime naps ( in cot), he usually has abit of a shout going down for about 5 mins. Now in the cot this isn't a problem as he's contained! But of course in a bed he won't be....
I feel he still needs an hour in the afternoon or he is hellish after 3pm (on the odd occasion he hasnt napped). With an hours nap he still goes to bed at 7 & sleeps through.

I guess all I can do is try & see if he will nap in the bed?
Just after any advice or ideas

I found that going into a bed helped hugely with sleep, as he enjoyed climbing in to the bed himself. It was the cot bars he hated.

At night time I lay out the sleeping bag then he climbs onto bed, past the bed guard, then lies down on the sleeping bag so that we can fasten it on. Would a sleeping bag be an option?

Also try a bit of role play, 'let's pretend to go to bed' etc.

Can he not still use the cot for his nap?

Suppose this would only work if you were keeping the cot built and not storing it for a few months till needed again.

I remember my ds kept up daytime naps in his bed (same as you, moved him at that age so he didn't feel he was "getting out of his cot to make room for the baby".

No problem for us with the switch to a bed. We sat with him until he was drowsy/asleep. Naps are easier than bedtime in the bed! Confused

Thanks for all your replies.

I guess I'm just concerned that he won't stay in bed when I put him down for a nap, as he normally has a little shout about it in cot.

Fudgy I will still have cot up, so if all else fails (& I'm desperate for him to nap so I can have a rest ) he can go in there for daytime naps. I didn't know if doing that would confuse things? But then, he often falls asleep in the car & doesn't demand to go off for a drive to fall asleep at night!

Iggly good idea to stay with until drowsy

Think pregnancy hormones are making me over think this one!

We put DD (2.5) in a bed in her new room on Friday night - expected difficult, bedtimes, early rising and resisting naps. We did nothing different (well, one extra story to calm the excitement), and nor did she. So far, so good at nap time and night time.

Ds 2.3 went into big bed last night. He wanted a grobag instead of his new duvet and then settled nicely. Once he stopped playing with his cars he slept nicely for his nap today. I did give him a stern talking to before his nap telling him not to get out of bed. And then threatened to take his cars away if he didn't sleep!
Does he have a nap 'routine' at all like story and then tucked under a blanket? Or grobag for nap? Stick to the same routine as much as poss for bedtime and naptime. (I'm guessing this is why ds settled better with grobag as it's part of his pre bedtime routine) good luck! Nerve wracking isn't it?
