Baby waking 1-1.5 hours after going down to sleep

My baby is 20 weeks and from about 10-12 weeks she started going to bed about 7.30pm and sleeping until I fed her about 11pm. For the last 2 weeks she has started waking crying up at 9-9.30pm. She will sometimes goes back to sleep if we give her a cuddle and sometimes I feed her till she falls asleep which usually just takes a few minutes (she is a speedy feeder generally). I wondered if anyone might have any idea what the cause might be and any advice in how to prevent it as she does seem very upset when she wakes.

Is she napping well in the day? And feeding well? Does she take a good feed at bedtime? Do you feed her to sleep at naps and bedtime as well or can she settle to sleep independently?

For us, wakings in the first few hours after bedtime were usually a sign of overtiredness.

However, if she isn't an independent sleeper, then it may be she has come into light sleep at the end of a sleep cycle & then wakes fully & because she doesn't know how to self settle, she cries for you.

We also went through this for a few weeks at that age and worked out it was due to overtiredness so made sure DS was napping every couple of hours during the day.

Thanks for your replies. She does usually feed quite well before going to bed. Her daytime naps are not very regular but the 9-9.30pm waking is happening whatever the length of her sleeps during the day so I guess it's not related to that.

She can settle herself but is not always willing to do so so that could be a reason. I've also noticed that she gets quite sleepy around 6-6.30pm so maybe that is her natural bedtime? It just seems super-early!

I found it was regularity of naps rather than length of sleep in the day that caused our problems. Sorry if that doesn't help in your situation but just trying to help as I know how miserable it is!

I have a friend who's baby Like to be in bed at 6.30, she won't go later and won't go earlier! try it for a few days and see how it goes, maybe try 7pm too? my dd who is now 8mo used to wake up frequently then I started putting her to sleep on her side and it done the trick a bit.
