Megan is 8 1/2 months old now. She's developed this strange sleeping habits. She doesn't seem to sleep the whole stretch anymore. She would stir and wants to be turned over... or be sat up in her cot... rub on her back... etc. I thought her back might have gotten warm through the night, and she wants to be turned over. But even doing that, she doesn't still sleep through. Also she kicks her covers off, and would get cold sometimes. PLEASE HELP!!

ChocCake is she in a grobag? My dd slept much better since she got into hers and she obv can't kick it off. Is Megan crawling? If not she will prob start to sleep better once she is as it will wear her out more. HTH

Put her in a growbag and stop sitting her up etc. Just go in, tell her to go to sleep and leave her. It's all just habit imo, ie she gets into light sleep and thinks she'd like to see you so yells (or does she? If not then don't go in at all). If she does yell, then go in, settle her briefly and leave, and do this at intervals until she settles herself back.
At 8months, we did controlled crying with our ds and he's slept through pretty much ever since. I was desperate by then for a night's sleep and I presume you are too!

you say she stirs - does she really wake up or just go into a light sleep? sometimes ds cries a bit in his sleep - he's 14 months now but it started at about 8 months I seem to remember - and if left alone he would often settle himself back to sleep again.
and a grobag is a great idea!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. The other thing I forgot to mention is that she had eczema but it's much better now. But because of that she's developed a habit of scratching. So if I leave her to cry for too long, she would have scratched her face off! That's why I tend to go in and calm her down. I might try the grobag, but won't she get too hot?

Hi Choc cake,

My ds (9 mo)also has eczema and does the scratching when in a light sleep thing and then wakes himself up.A gro bag is often too warm because its not practical to put him to bed in a gro-suit as he would scratch his legs together all night so he needs to be in a suit with feet. We tuck in his sheets or duvet under his arms leaving the feet free but covered, when he throws his legs in the air the duvet usually falls back on them.

We gave him zyrtec for a week at bedtime, which broke the itch cycle and he now sleeps pretty well and self settles when he does wake. TBH he's sleeping better than me at the moment.

He also turns onto his side - is this what your dd is doing? I just ignore it, sometimes he goes to sleep on his side and other times works out how to get back onto his back.

If he is talking and chirping I set the microwave timer for 10 minutes and he usually goes back to sleep before it bings. He does make an enormous number of noises with his eyes closed!

Grobags are perfectly safe, not too hot and I think they are absolutely great. Try one and you won't go back!
