From crib to cot

DD is now almost 17 weeks and in a recent post I said that she was starting to roll around her crib a lot and I was thinking about getting a sleeping bag for her. I've now ordered and just waiting for delivery but I've started to notice that she's getting into all sorts of odd positions in her sleep.

The other night she woke up crying because she had sort of wriggled herself to the top of the crib and was sort of twisted horrizontally. We have a swinging crib which is kept locked when she sleeps however she is now unlocking it in her sleep and so it's swinging around all over the place. Obviously I lock it but then she only unlocks it again, every time she turns over it becomes unlocked. I have tried popping in some cotton wool around the lock but nothing works.

She's a petit girl but she's very long, when her feet touch the bottom of the crib there's about 4 inches from the top of her head to the top of the crib (I think). At her last weigh in almost 4 weeks ago she was 13lb so I'm guessing some of the weight attributes to her unlocking the crib every time she turns over.

I'm considering moving her into her cot but I feel that it's too early? That said is it just mean to keep her in the crib or is this normal? I have no idea! The cot is a cotbed so it's large and we wouldn't be able to move it in with us. We do have a sensor monitor so if we did move her into her own room then an alarm would sound if anything funny happened with her breathing.

Any advice would be welcome.

Well having just seen a post in AIBU challenging people to answer unanswered threads I find myself here!

I think we may have very simmilar cribs here and if that is the case i would suggest contacting your manufacturer as DD2 is 26weeks and 13lb, she has managed to un-do the swinging lock once and that was only due to us not tightening it once in the first 20weeks Blush

Some babies are ready for a cot sooner than others and I am the first to say keep the baby in with you as long as possible, however if she is about to outgrow her crib then perhaps the new sleeping bag could be used in the crib for a few nights and if she likes it that would help her adjust to her larger crib with the comfort of the sleeping bag.

We too have had to get DD a sleeping bag as she was begining to escape from her blankets and this has settled her. I know we will have to put DD into her cot soon as is becoming stronger in her quest to sit up!

Yes that is the style of crib however it's a family crib, my mum used it for my sister and I and wanted us to use it with DD. It's wonderfully beautiful and it is a good crib, mum can't remember whether it used to unlocked when we turned over though. It just looks like DD has a very tight fit, that combined with the crib unlocking I can't help but wonder if she has outgrown it. I don't really want to move her to the cot yet but will if I need to.
