Which is more successful - Pick Up, Put Down or Return and Check

My DS is 7 months old. He is still waking around 3 or 4 times a night, I need to reduce this as I'm whacked.

I can put him into his cot at bedtime awake and he can self settle. However, he cannot do this every night. Why? I am so confused that he can do it sometimes and not others. However, even when he does self settle this doesn't seem to impact the number of night wakings, I thought it was supposed to?

Anyway, I will continue trying to put him in awake and if he is still waking a lot in the night I need to try either Pick Up, Put Down or Return and Check.

Which one have you had success with? What are the pros and cons of each one?

Thanks so much

Does he ever need feeding at night still? My 7month old does - just once - but my older child slept straight through for 12-13 hours from 6 months.

Personally I'd just put in the ear plugs and ignore apart from around 2-3am for a feed. In a couple of weeks we're doing this method for our little one - when I'm certain he doesn't actually need the milk.

Hi there, I'm not sure if self settling is actually supposed to stop night wakings?! Isnt the idea that if they do wake, u don't necessarily know cos they should be able to take themselves back off.... Unless hungry!! I'm currently doing this technique, and tend to get one waking when I sit by her cot for approx 20 mins, unless she's hungry. Last nite she went thro, or atleast I think she did!! I never woke!! Sorry I can't help with the 2 techniques in question. Xxx
