Cot bumper?

I know the advice says not to use a cot bumper, but does anyone know if this is this at any age or just for newborns? My six month old is constantly moving (rolling and trying to crawl, but not quite managing yet) and is forever bumping his head or getting his feet stuck through the bars (even with a sleeping bag on Hmm). Would a cot bumper be safe now or are they still not recommended? Thanks.

Well my mum always said once they move take it off, but general advice is not until 1 yr.
I used one constantly until DS went into bed, as figured by the time they're old enough to move, they can get themselves away if need be. We never had any problems and would do the same again.
I think it's just personal preference really, DH wanted to protect DS arms/legs etc, I wanted to stop him bumping head and thought it looked nice.

bumpers are ok to use from birth until they can get on their hands and knees - they should be well gone by 1 year! From the sids website:

Bumpers: there are cot bumpers in the cot. In the past, there were concerns that bumpers might make babies too hot, increasing the risk of cot death. However, research has shown that they have neither good nor bad effects. Take it out when your baby can get up on her hands and knees so she can?t climb out. Make sure there are no trailing strings or ties.

you could try an airwrap bumper

I've got the airwrap one for one of my 7 month old twins, she kept using the bars for leverage to spin round and then get her legs stuck, would recommend it.

I too use air wrap bumper. Secure and no dangly bits! Wink
