Bedtime for 3.5 month old

Just looking for some advice about bedtime. I was keen to try and get my dd to go about 8 but I can't keep her up much past 7 and the last few nights I'm struggling to keep her up past 6! This seems so early so I try and keep her up but wonder whether I should let her go at 6 and put up with the hideously early mornings!

Does anyone elses babies go this early or anyone got any suggestions how I can get her to stay up a bit later?
Thanks

What is a hideously early morning for you? When my DD was 3 months I was still hoping for 7. Now 6 seems like a dream when most days we get 5.15-5.30. So you might just have to live with it and enjoy the fact that you get an evening to yourselves. 6pm is pretty early, but not totally unreasonable I'd think. Our DD has gone to bed at 7 since about 3 months.

Mornings can start at 5 and that's with bedtime at 7 so I'm not really keen to go any earlier!

Absolutely not! 5 is hell, just wanted to check you weren't deluding yourself you might be allowed to sleep til 9 :-)

I'd say it's hard to push by 2 hours but having had to deal with mega jetlag, you can change their timetable but you will need to be v consistent and it might be hard at this age because you don't have so much in the way of social cues to work with. When they're older you can shift meal times which helps. Of course maybe at 3.5 months they're actually more amenable - I'm not sure as we never hadn't try!

I've decided I want to keep my evenings even ifnit means we wake too early, I'm sure it'll sort itself at some point!

Ah sleep in till 9, those were the days :)
Maybe I was living in hope there is an easy answer, I think I'll keep trying to keep her up till 7 and forget about getting to 8. Like you say im sure it will all sort itself out....fingers crossed!

i let my dd have a nap at around 5pm for maybe 45 mins or an hour, then she will go to bed at 8pm she's 6mnths but been doing this all along.

I was thinking about this last night and was also wondering whether an extra nap would help until she was used to it. That's what we did with the jetlag.

muzzy2011 · 02/03/2012 09:08

Yes I think that would help. She's a terrible napper in the afternoon which is why by the time 6 comes she's exhausted. I'll try and work on a nap about 5ish and see what happens. Thanks ladies
