Here is ds's routine
Wakes around 5 - 5.30
7:00 BFeed
7.30 breakfast
10 snack
12.30 lunch
1-2.30 sleep
3 snack
5.30 dinner
6.30 bath
7.00 BFeed and bed

He is really tired again by 9 and I have to jolly him along until his sleep at lunchtime. I feel that it is not good to keep doing this over a long period,- he has been waking early for about 7 months now. The room is totally dark but he wakes up and is wide awake and will not go back to sleep - have left him to cry for 1.5 hours and makes no difference. Now I give him books in his cot which gets me about 20 mins, then he watches a video which gets me another 30 mins. He sleeps really well otherwise, goes to sleep on his own, very rarely wakes throughout night and settles well if he does.
Any advice please I am at the end of my tether, I want to start trying for another baby but can't face it with the tiredness...

God thats one early riser, i thought my 21mth was bad waking at 6.30ish.. he wakes regulaly in night for his dummy though so i understand the tiredness as they go back straight back to sleep and you spend another 30mins trying to go back to sleep .. im sure he will grow out of it.. and so will yours!

when my dd started waking early I used 'wake to sleep'. About an hour before their usual wake up time, you rouse them a little to get them to come out of their deep sleep and then let them go back to sleep again. It is supposed to help rejig their sleep cycle and help make them sleep a bit later.

I did it by changing dd's nappy in the cot - she moaned and rolled over at one point but didnt wake fully. You would just have to try whatever you were happy with to wake them a little but not wake them fully. It's recommended to try it for 3 nights (its a babywhisperer method)
