14month old - what time do they wake up ?

Our 14month old dd generally (I'll jinx it now!) goes down an absolute treat at 7pm every night with a very quick and simple 'routine' that last not much longer than 15 mins if no bath or about 30 if bathed.. So yes generally is asleep by 7.15pm - she then sleeps through (majority of time) to anywhere between 5.30 - 6.30 am.

I'm a night owl really, as is dh and I am loathed / struggle to get up at this time.. so plonk her in the middle of bed in hope that we can get even a few extra minutes zzzz. Generally if it is the earlier of the two times then we do get a bit but it's not guaranteed.

Am I being bit naive to expect to get her through till 7am ? Interested to know your 14mn sleeping hours ?

I assume given that 'Milkshake' starts at 6am then others must be up !!

DD is also 14 months. She goes to sleep fine between 6 and 7pm every night and wakes up between 4.30 and 5.30 every. bloody. morning. Envy

DS2 sleeps 10.5 hours overnight (as did his brother). So if he is asleep by 7.30am, then he's up around 6am. He sleeps fine, takes a good nap in the day - but has always slept this amount overnight - so I try and make bedtime as late as I can without him being overtired.....not much you can do otherwise if they are done sleeping!

My LO also did similar at this age. But it might be down to your daytime routine needing a tweak. Does she nap in the day & if so, when & how long for?

Thanks for responses
Cagney, feeling your pain !
Jazz, you say your little one has a good nap in the day - how long generally ?
Omama, I think you could be right - problem have is that she is at childminders 3 days a week and there isn't a particular routine everyday and she's always been varied in her nap time - sometimes she can do as little as 30 mins (or less) and don't think we've ever really had more than hour and half.. this is now generally around 11.30ish.. though again, varies I think.

So she's on 1 nap then? If her nap is at around 11.30am & she is napping for 30mins-1.5hrs, this means she is awake for between 6-7hrs before bedtime, which is a pretty long time after a shortish nap. Its my guess that she may be overtired by bedtime, which may be contributing to the early wakeup. Have you considered trying an earlier bedtime, say 6-6.30pm latest? Many people are scared to try it for fear of an even earlier wakeup, but it can often actually give you a later wakeup. I certainly found this to be true with my DS. And even if she still wakes at the same time as usual, she will have had maybe an hour's extra night sleep, which can only help.

Its my guess if you try that in the short term then you might find she sleeps in a bit later in the morning. And sleep begets sleep, so if she gets past any OT then you might find her nap extends too. Ideally you want a good 2hrs at this age. If her nights extend a bit you may find gradually shifting the nap towards midday will also help discourage the EW & encourage the nap to extend.

Doesn't the CM put the children down for structured naps then?

What omama said.

We seem to struggle much more with DS on the days he's at the CM all day because he tends to go down earlier for his long nap (she does a school run so he's usually awake again by 2.30pm) so is shattered by bedtime. On the days he comes home pm (x3) he sleeps later and longer for his pm nap and makes it to bedtime in a good mood. He then seems to sleep better and longer. As a rule he's a 7.30 - 7.30 sleeper. Occasionally he'll wake either at 7 or 8 (absolute bliss!)

What Omama said.

My DD is now almost 18 months but started rising at 5-5.30 about the same age as your DD. she also used to go down no trouble at 7.15 but she would also often be exhausted by that time. I switched her bed to 6.15-6.30. The bad news is that she still gets up at 5.30 most of the time. The good news is about 20 percent of the time it is more like 6.30 but main improvement is she has had an extra hour's sleep at least, and is in a better mood in the morning for it.

I was scared that putting her to bed that early would result in a 4.30 start but I've been doing it for weeks and it never has.
