Hi all, here I am again on these boards after some advice. My dd is bf and also BLWing and she can settle herself off to sleep in her cot for a sleep in the day and also at bed time but then within a few hours at night time she is awake, I either have to feed her then to get her back off or she is then up until I go to bed. Through the night she wakes up 3 or 4 times and needs to be fed to go back off and doesnt like going back into her cot. I'm thinking putting her in her own room where she cant see me and my bed might work?Anyone got any advice?

What's her daytime routine look like? Wake time, nap times/durations & bedtime?

If you were feeding to sleep at nap & BT's as well I'd say she'd developed the wrong sleep association but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

So is her cot in your bedroom? How dark is it in there - can she see you when you go in to see to her?

And how much is she eating & BFing during the day? With BLW they don't always eat the same volumes of food as a baby who has purees, so its possible she may be hungry.

Could she be overtired? WakIng within a few hours of going to sleep, and frequent night wakings often point to this.

Nap times and durations + bedtime time would be useful

Thanks both of you for replying. She wakes up anything between seven and half eight, she then will have a nap at about 12 until 2 or 3. If she wakes up more like 2 then she will have another short nap of about an hour at 5ish. She then goes to bed at about 7, 8 if she did have a nap. The bedroom isnt pitch black, you can def see in there and she can see me if she wakes up, her cot is right next to my bed so she is literally 12 inches away from me. She doesnt eat huge amounts, she still sort of plays with it and has a little munch, what she eats can vary quite a lot day to day.

At 8 months old my DS had the following routine:
Wake about 7.30 (milk) followed by breakfast about 8.30am)
Nap 9/9.30 - for about 45 minutes
Lunch at 12ish
Back down for a 2 hour nap at 12.30
4/4.30 - short 30 minute nap
Bed at 7

Based on that, and the fact that i think about 2.5 / 3 hours is ideal awake time for a baby at this stage, i reckon she's getting over-tired. Would she sleep in the morning? I'd be inclined to give her a morning nap, and then tweak the time of the lunchtime nap to suit, then bed between 6 and 7 dependent on when she wakes up.

DS dropped his afternoon nap at about 10 months so was just having morning and lunchtime, but he always liked to sleep.

and it can / will take about 4/5 days to see any real difference - so if you do it, be consitent!

She also might fight the morning nap a little if she's not used to it...

If you think she genuinely needs less sleep, then we tweaked DS's routine at about 11/12 months to this:
Up at 7(ish)
Down for a sleep at 9/9.30 (this would be anything up to an hour and a half, but normally 45 minutes)
Sleep at 1.30 / 2(ish) for a couple of hours
Awake no later than 4
Bed at 7pm

OP my DD is the same (8mo, BF, BLW, 2 naps in the day) and wakes up in the night (last night was 3 times), so I will be watching this thread!

She's been in her own room from about 5 mo, and was sleeping 12 hours straight...so really annoyed that we've gone back to night wakings!

From what I read about BLW the food doesn't really fill them up as such until about 9-10 months when they really start to tuck in. If your DD isn't hoovering food up yet then she's not ready to.

From what Lotus says I am starting to think maybe my DD needs an extra nap...

My DS who is nearly 7 months old has a similar routine to LotusPalm most days. However then every once in a while he will throw in a day where he has four short
