toddler naps

Hi All,

My DS used to nap at around 12.30pm for anything up to 2hrs with no problems going to bed between 7-7.30pm. I started waking him after 1hr when I felt that the length of his nap was stating to interfer with the time he was tired and ready for bed.

DS is 21 months now and for the last 2 weeks has been wanting a later and later nap and will not sleep before (on the occasion he hasn't taken one- or I have kept him awake because I thought it was too late- he has been over tired and woken in the middle of the night Sad) Yesterday's nap was at 3.55pm for 35 min!!

I'm at a bit of a loss at what to do. Can I ask, at what time and for how long your toddler (age also please) naps during the day.

Thanks

Hiya, wanted to answer as suspect we will be in the same position soon as dd is approaching 20 months. Have had to limit the nap to an hour for a while and now it's variable as to how long it will take her to settle.....Can you try coinciding naps with a car or buggy ride to give him a bit of encouragement, and maybe shortening naps to 40mins or so? think this transition period is a pain and maybe your ds will need naps some days but others just need an earlier bedtime. Let me know how it goes... will need to prepare myself!

DD did this just before she dropped her nap completely, at about 20 months, at Christmas.

The nap shifted from 10.30am for 90 minutes, to around 2/3pm for about 60 minutes (that lasted all of about a week) and then 4pmish for an hour (which was for about another week) and then it was pointless putting her down for a nap as she would go to bed at 6.30pm regardless.
