Wake to sleep technique - any advice welcome

There seem to be a lot if threads about early risers and I am working my way through them, but what I would really like is some advice on the 'wake to sleep' technique as I'm keen on trying it. My 18 month old is waking anytime between 5am - 5.30am then wanting a morning sleep instead of an afternoon one. My baby whisperer book just says to wake them an hour before they usually wake then change their nappy and put them back to bed. It seems a bit vague. Has anyone had any success with this? He shares a room with his 3.5 year old sister so most other techniques wouldn't be suitable.

Never wake a sleeping baby!

Seriously, I tried the wake to sleep in desperation, all I achieved was an exta hour of being up. He got the 'wake' bit, not so much the 'sleep' Hmm

The only thing that worked in the end was letting him get older! He is 4.5 now and gets up at 6 am on the dot everyday. That is because he has a clock and because we have told him not to move until there is a 6 at the start.

Sorry not a helpful post, it is such hard work having an early waker. You might be lucky and it could be a phase that will pass quickly. If not, rest assured it gets easier as they get older and understand better.

Thanks for the advice, we didn't bother trying it in the end. We are putting ds to bed later now (moving from 6.30pm bedtime to 7.30pm) and using a duvet instead of a sleeping bag in case that was bothering him. We are not expecting any results for at least a week. No idea if it is working yet as dd woke him up this morning at 5.30am shouting that she wanted a wee. Sooooo annoying. Now investing in a gro clock to keep her from waking him up. We're basically trying everything!
