How much daytime sleep?

DS2 is 21 months and takes 1 nap just after lunch of about 2 hours.

He's always been an early riser, but since the clocks have changed he's varying between 4.30-5am. He goes to bed at around 6.30-7pm and co-sleeps.

Are we letting him sleep to much during the day? He goes to nursery 2 days and most of the others around the same age seem to still take 2 hours.

We intend to continue to co-sleep for the foreseeable future, but may think about night weaning once he is 2. He's generally fine during the night, but once he wakes that's him up and about, no hope of getting him back to sleep.

Any advice? Should we try reducing his daytime nap?

could you make bedtime later? My ds gave up his nap at the age of 2

Does he still get up as early if he goes to bed slightly later. 430am is no fun for anyone. My older 2 both dropped their daytime naps at 2yr1mth so he's maybe not far away from that. You could try reducing his daytime nap but he could end up needing an earlier bedtime so could end up waking even earlier or it could make him overtired and he could end up waking often during the night (this happened recently with dd3). Think I would try moving his bedtime later for a few nights and if that doesn't work maybe wake him 15 mins early from his nap.

Best of luck as early mornings are not fun

What time is his nap after lunch? 1230-2.30?

My DS is 18 months & naps 12.30-2.30 & his BT is 7.30pm. I wake him from his nap at 2hrs or we get short nights & I often have to wake him in the mornings now too.

So agree with pp's that if he is napping around this time then a 6.30-7pm BT is probably too early. I would gradually push it back by 15mins/week towards 7.30pm & see if it makes any difference. I suspect though that to get him a substantially later wake up you might need a shorter nap, so if the later BT doesn't help you could consider capping his nap at 1.5hrs perhaps? Like mum23girlys says with a shorter nap he may continue to need the earlier bedtime so he doesn't get overtired.
