7 week old too much sleep?

Hi all, my 7 week old DD cluster fed from 8.30pm until 1.30am this morning. The little monkey then had to be woken up at 7.30am when I woke up as DH was getting ready for work :-o! Having woken her up she has had a roughly 20 min feed (normal for her) and seems to want to sleep again. Is 6 hours too long still at this stage?

I can't quite believe I got such a long stretch of sleep...,but am willing to do without if not good for DD.

No I think it's fairly common to get a long stretch. We had 8-2 for a few weeks around that age.... Enjoy it while you can, it may well disappear again soon!

Thanks fifi, she did it again last night, was totally stunned. I'm now wondering how I get her to sleep earlier as I start bedtime routine at 8pm and she doesn't sleep until 12-1am. Any ideas?

Hmmm me again :) just persistence I think. Ours was earlier to bed than yours but we just kept aiming for 7pm so did bedtime routine at 6pm and for about 4 weeks just held her quietly downstairs while we watched tv with the volume low and carted her up very gently after she'd fallen asleep.kept on with this til she got used to earlier bedtime. As she gradually got earlier I would sit by the cot with her in my arms til she dropped off - took about an hour or so in the beginning but gradually got shorter.

Does she show anysigns of sleepiness earlier? Ours was a right screamer but she did start blinking heavily at 7 (that's how we chose it) even though initiallyshe didn't go to sleep til 9 or so.

My DD was such a mega sleeper at that age, she slept almost all day long and all night long. Well actually on closer inspection she didn't but it felt like it. I do remember though that from birth she would sleep for a 2 hour stretch and then a 5 hour stretch at night and during the day her naps would usually last about 3 hours. Then at around 7 weeks she started sleeping through the night, she slept for 10 hours straight on Christmas Eve! She's now 14 weeks and usually sleeps around 12 hours through the night, now day time naps are another matter entirely!!!

We started a bedtime routine when she was 6 weeks old because like yours she wouldn't go to sleep until the small hours. I couldn't manage it any longer so every night for a week we did wind down, bath, change, milk, story and bed. First few nights were a real struggle and then after a week or so she picked it up. Now I can literally pop her down and she drifts off on her own, if she wakes in the night (which is about once or twice a week) and doesn't need food or change then she can self settle. I really feel that for us the bedtime routine worked wonders but all babies are different and it's not for everyone. Now all I need to do is crack the day time nap...until something new comes along.
