My 9 month has always been a fairly bad sleeper, day and night. Not once, even as a newborn, has she ever just fallen asleep without us doing something to make it happen. Except for now. At her highchair, mid way through her dinner at 5pm. She has refused all sleep since waking at 10.30am from her morning nap so was pretty knackered.

She usually goes to bed at 6.30pm.

So, when she wakes should I put her straight into her cot for her night sleep and risk a 5am start? Or treat this as a late nap and keep her awake a couple of hours before bath and bed as normal?

I'm so shocked I can't think straight

My boy doesn't sleep, but all the books I have read in my efforts to find help have said that an earlier bedtime sometimes means waking later, rather than earlier. Appears that sleep better and easier to get back to sleep if not overtired. So I would say, straight to bed and hope this helps with naps next day.

Thanks. I had little choice in the matter as it happens as she woke up screaming and rubbing her eyes desperate to get back to sleep so into her pyjamas and cot she went. Hopefully she'll sleep better tomorrow although I am dreading an early start :)

Still, at least I know she can tire herself out now!
