Baby sleeps in the day and wakes at night

My 2month old, C sleeps now from roughly 9.30pm until 12.30am then feeds. Then sleeps 1am until 2am and feeds and then is awake 2am until 4.30am or 5am wriggling and/or upset. She then sleeps 5am until 7am and feeds and then sleeps 7.30am until 8.30am. Any suggestions to get a longer sleep period in the night and also no 2 or 3 hour wake times during the night?

This sounds very normal for a 2mo old! They are still ver little And the 2am 4am feeds are normal too, what does her feeding look like in the day? My dd is 6mo and still wakes up on average twice a night, some just can't do without them until they are older.

Just time I'm afraid! I have always fed (ff) on demand and my dd2 was in the same pattern as yours.

That initial 3 hour slep will get longer eventually soon and you will be able to do a bit more around feeding.

I started putting both dc's down around 7pm after bath and bottle, so they soon learnt night time was starting, which helped the rest of a night time feeding pattern to establish. You could also try a dream feed around 12am to knock out the first waking, maybe dp could do that so you can get some solid sleep.

Again I did, I went to bed at 9, he did the 12am and so I got up at 2am.

Hi Rozcoco, it's really hard isn't it when your not getting enough sleep.

The first thing is to remember is that it's early days and things will get better.
I'm not sure if you're feeding yourself or bottle feeding? It might be an idea if your not already and are feeding yourself to try expressing in the day so you can feed quicker in the night.
It might also be an idea to read up on a few night feeding techniques such as keeping things very quite and trying to reduce fuss at night time to try and break some habits that babies may get into. Also make sure that your baby gets all their feeds in the day and therefore reduce the amount that they will need at night

All of the above is so easy to say when your not sleep deprived and a lot of it is trial and error and seeing what works for you and your baby. Lots of luck and love of love. Rxx

Wow! That is all great advice and makes me feel better to hear its normal! I'm Breastfeeding but I'll definitely try expressing and feeding with that milk in the night as I've just got the hang of expressing. Would people really recommend bedtime at 7pm?! I was thinking that way she'd be awake even earlier in the night?! Her daytime feeding is roughly every 2 hours but each feed takes a very long time as she pulls on and off the breast a lot. What do people recommend with regards to nappy changing through the night since it stirs her more but she has some nappy rash so I don't want to leave her wet?.... Thanks so much everyone! Xxx

Yes agree with RachelJane that the trick is to get as much into them in the day as you can.

Re the 7 bedtime, I did it while resigned that I would be up there with them for a couple of hours for a week or so until they settled. It is sleep training I guess, but you are trying to get the baby to react to cues, rather than ignoring their cues - if that makes sense? However I also had 2 babies who hated moses baskets and loved cots so that effected my decision. Maybe try settling with a bath and feed at 8 and see if she settles by 9 and gradually move it backwards?

I would slather sudocrem over night on bottom and only change if a dirty nappy. I still put sudocrem (only at night) on dc's nappies to take away any soreness/rash overnight however small.

I did a 7 bed time from 12 weeks with an 11 o clock dream feed and dd gradually got the hang of it. Try Metanium for nappy rash, it's amazing. Also no matter what nappies I used through the day I always use pampers baby dry for night. Xx
